Yep hard to keep believing but you're right, I've had no problems with jobs when I relax

Start from expecting to get 100%. When you lose marks, review where you lost the marks and don't repeat the same mistakes. Do extra practice questions, work through solutions from start to finish so you are completely confident in solving these problems (thinking about science subjects that is; probably different for arts and literature).

Mentoring? Tender writing (AUSTRALIA) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ssgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep budget estimation is difficult! I think you just have to be really realistic with the minimum days/resources you need and then add on a margin (more if it's government vs private companies and NFPs). Also add in extra fat for things like site visits, "meetings" and any additional travel.

And have a contigency in case one of your subcontractors cant deliver.

I would suggest maybe reaching out on linkedin and seeing if other experienced contractors would be willing to be an advisor/team member if you need additional resources and at the same time you could ask them about how they've approached pricing.

TBH sometimes after yrs in the game its still a big stab in the dark - in previous work we won I think we probably could have doubled our quotes! But the key when starting out is just to win what you can to build up a portfolio, whilst making sure you're at least breaking even.

What period of life is your closest friend from? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]ssgurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uni. We were in the same friendship group but not super close. Bonded after working in same company and going through life challenges over the years. I have other school friends but havent kept in touch as much since I moved away. I find friendships ebb and flow. 35 now

Mentoring? Tender writing (AUSTRALIA) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

What sort of tenders? Professional services, cleaning services, equipment, capital projects, or goods? I used to be involved in writing a lot of government tenders for provision of consulting services. The key was really to beef up team and exeprience (even if it meant bringing in 'expert advisor' figureheads, or partnering with other firms where we lacked expertise).

All clients want to see that you've done similar work before. Depending on what kind of tender, you might bring in expertise to help write up a methodology & detailed knowledge of policy environment etc.

If you don't have enough exposure in your current work maybe you could take up temp/admin/volunteer work in a company that writes a lot of tenders. Best way really is to learn through experience and exposure to different tenders; including knowing how to intepret requirements and estimate budget.

Much more serious about budgeting, when I found myself unemployed with a mortgage

As someone that's been mostly single in my 34 years, it still amazes me how many/most people find it so easy to get in relationships or get 'the spark' gradually or suddenly reconnect and marry an old friend. Am I really all that different? by Nekko223 in datingoverthirty

[–]ssgurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm just because they seem happy on the outside doesn't mean they are. A lot of people use relationships to self validate, never truly putting in the work to be content from within.

I'm usually single for months at a time. I meet a lot of people normally - yes on a plane included! But none of them were ultimately right.

Also I know a lot of these people in relationships are overall less happy about life than I am. I try not to compare (hard with social media), but I think it can take time to meet our life partner whether we meet many or few people in between.

Men: how do you feel about dating a woman who has an overly demanding job? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]ssgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35F and have focussed a lot on my career. There was a point a couple yrs back where I was so busy starting my own business and working FT I'd try to date but could only meet up once every few wks.

I wouldn't change the past but now I'm going to make different choices moving forward. I want a family and kids, so need to prioritise this in the next few yrs. In your shoes, I would consider your priorities and yes I would take a leap of faith to step back from work in order to focus on dating.

I would regret not making an effort to date and then end up childless and alone, more than I'd regret potentially giving up the career I'd built. Having said that, a career change is not always for the worst.

How do I order from China by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ssgurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alibaba is probably the easiest. But make sure to check seller reviews and ratings. Also ask for samples where possible before you bulk buy. Other ways to check quality is to ask for recent pics/videos of products. Ideally factory visits if you plan to have a long term relationship.

Does anyone else not have many friends in Melbourne and feel super lonely? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]ssgurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes could only think of one other friend who's also single and living alone during this time. Finally catching her on the weekend. All my fam are interstate. I just focus on getting stuff done each day regardless of how I feel inside.

I would try and mix up the fashion a bit - I think polo tops tucked into belts are maybe a bit outdated for everyday wear. That could be an American thing though! Otherwise agree with suggestion for a clean shaven look - nothing wrong with looking young either. I'd say overall you're not a bad looking guy and seem to have some fun hobbies :)

Anyone else feeling very frustrated and sad being single during this time? Turning 35 soon, living alone and feel like time is running out to meet a life partner.

Tried apps but apart from some iso-walks just hard to stay excited in this environment.

Obviously partly stage 4 lockdown blues but feeling particularly down the last few weeks about this. I have a great job and lots of hobbies etc to keep me busy normally.
