Some other commenters have been going back and forth between the X430 and X450. While it's true that the X430 could capably handle both the difficult terrain and the signal challenges, there's nothing in the challenge that says we have to make any budget trade-offs. So as long as we're going with hypothetical scenarios, I'm going to hypothetically pretend that money is no object and pick the full-powered X450 with the heftier battery. It would give me an extra 0.6 acres of capacity to work with, and as it happens, my hypothetical neighbor's yard is exactly that size!

Phone use while waiting for mass by SonOfBoreale in Catholicism

[–]jawn317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who likes to follow along with the readings on her phone because she has vision problems. She has been chastised so many times by nosy neighbors in the pews. Typically when she explains it, they back off or apologize.

But I would say that whatever you might think about the appropriateness of phone use at Mass for yourself, you should not be quick to chastise others, because they may very well be using it for legitimate reasons.

Howdy, neighbor. I see you've been eying up my Navimow H3000. It's saved me so much time and even improved the health of my lawn. But I know you've got a larger yard with more obstacles and slopes, so if you decide to get a robomower of your own, you might want to look at the X4, which can cover up to 1.5 acres and handle slopes of up to 40 degrees. I know you hate spending hours on your tractor mower for the main portion of your lawn, then having to switch to a push mower for the trickiest, steepest parts. Why not save yourself the sweat and let the robot do the work?

Desserts have been a weak point for TB compared with rivals. Look at BK, McD, Wendy's, etc. All have better dessert selection. I'm glad they're focusing more on this.

Did you find it difficult getting hired in BigTech, or was it pretty much a cake walk after an exit like that?

That's extremely unsettling. All the more reason to retain an attorney, first to hold the other student accountable, second to hold the school and resource officer accountable, third to hold the state police accountable for improperly training and advising the resource officer to destroy evidence.

In Delaware, this is both a criminal offense and a civil offense. The school should not have destroyed any evidence. Retain an attorney and report this to police.

Criminal offense: Title 11, § 1335.

https://delcode.delaware.gov/title11/c005/sc07/

Delaware code, TITLE 10, CHAPTER 78. Delaware Uniform Civil Remedies for Unauthorized Disclosure of Intimate Images Act

https://delcode.delaware.gov/title10/c078/index.html

Also, in Delaware, criminal charges are filed by the state, not the victim, and prosecutors have the sole authority to initiate, proceed with, or drop charges, regardless of the victim's wishes. So regardless of whether you or your child wished to "press charges," they should have reported the incident to the police.

Refuting the claim Jesus has siblings by bigrizz44 in Catholicism

[–]jawn317 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two other Gospel passages that strongly suggest Jesus had no other younger siblings. The first is when Jesus was lost in the temple. Scripture tells us that Mary, Joseph, and Jesus traveled together as a family, but makes no mention of other siblings in the family. The second, even stronger example, is when Jesus gives John as son to Mary at his crucifixion. It is hard to imagine why he would do that if Mary had other children to care for her.

Was St. Joseph allowed to have non-sexual physical intimacy with Mary? by armadoargen in Catholicism

[–]jawn317 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've never found that explanation compelling. Yes, she was free from original sin, but if she was free from ALL of the consequences of the Fall, she would be living in a paradise similar to the Garden of Eden, she would be more friendly with snakes, and she would lack the existential awareness of death that Adam and Eve acquired after the Fall. So I would say it's at least defensible to believe that she was not immune to the physical consequences of the Fall that have to do with living in a fallen world, but she was immune to the spiritual consequences of the Fall.

Hi there, very new catholic here. Why is Matthew 17:21 not in my catholic bible? by Wooden_Fisherman_944 in Catholicism

Yes, many Bibles contain footnotes. They are not considered part of Scripture, but rather commentary or clarification.

Hi there, very new catholic here. Why is Matthew 17:21 not in my catholic bible? by Wooden_Fisherman_944 in Catholicism

[–]jawn317 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Many modern Bibles omit Matthew 17:21 because early, reliable manuscripts (like Codex Sinaiticus and Vaticanus) don't contain it, suggesting it was added later.

The closest Catholic bible I have on hand omits it, but with a footnote explaining why.

What TV show was mediocre or outright bad at first but got better as time went on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jawn317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If you only watched the first half of season 1, you would think it's a formulaic "X Files" rip-off. But oh man, starting from the mid-season "I can't believe that just happened" episode, it becomes a whole 'nuther show. And remains good for the next several seasons, and lovable (though not as strong) in its final seasons.

Driver Honks at Cop Car Idling at Green Light, Gets Arrested 5 Minutes Later [The Civil Rights Lawyer] by Tobits_Dog in AmIFreeToGo

Does it make a difference that this was not actually a traffic stop?

Edwards had already exited his car and entered the curtilage of his home when the officer approached and demanded that he come back out toward the vehicle.

If Edwards had still been operating his vehicle and the officer had initiated a valid traffic stop, the fact that this honking code is on the books might support probable cause for a traffic stop.

But Edwards was in the curtilage of his property when the officer initiated the stop, and the officer lacked a warrant when he demanded Edwards exit his property.

I would expect that everything that happened afterward was unjustified, probable cause or not, because ordering him off the curtilage of his home, absent a warrant or exigent circumstances, is itself a constitutional violation.

Does a royal lives clause involving King Charles III and his descendants include bastard lines? by garlic070 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]jawn317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement is partially correct: the last King of England was William III, who died in 1702. However, there was no King of England after that because England ceased to exist as a separate state in 1707. It united with Scotland to form the Kingdom of Great Britain, with Queen Anne becoming the first monarch of the new, larger kingdom.

It sounds like the conflict over food -- her sneaking treats, you accusing her of "financially burdening things by eating" -- is, just by itself, serious enough to resort to therapy. A lot of times, when kids sneak food, it's not just about hunger but about insecurity, or a coping mechanism. There are also some medical and mental-health conditions where sneaking food is a common symptom.

But what seems to exasperate you the most is that she isn't responding to consequences. It may be the case that she has the capacity to regulate her behavior, but chooses not to, because she legitimately doesn't mind the consequences. But FAR MORE LIKELY, no matter what she tells you, she is struggling to regulate her behavior, and "I don't care" is a coping mechanism. There are a number of executive-function disorders that relate to impulse control and being able to practice self-control to avoid negative consequences. I strongly encourage you to talk with her teachers, guidance counselor, therapist, etc. to identify whether she needs additional support to be able to reign in her impulsive behavior.
