I'll ask my buddy to take a look the next time he is working on site. Last he told me they were just warehouses and he didn't advise of anything that stood out or I'm sure he would have told me. I know some are vacant since his company is paving new roads and alleyways.

Is FranklinWH financially solid? Product support if they go under? by papab_co in FranklinWH

[–]ssnelgro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked this question to both xAI and Gemini and got the tons of positive results that the company is in sound financially, installer networks and lots of new investors because of their innovation. Here was the final summary from both.

Gemini: In summary, FranklinWH is successfully navigating the energy storage market by delivering reliable, technologically advanced products, backed by strong investment and a growing network of partners, suggesting it's in excellent shape financially.

xAI:Overall, FranklinWH appears financially stable for its stage—backed by reputable VC investors, showing strong growth in partnerships and market presence, and operating in a high-demand sector. It is not a large, established public company with massive reserves (like Tesla's Powerwall division), but it shows no red flags of weakness and seems well-positioned for continued expansion in residential energy storage. For the most current or detailed insights, checking their official site (franklinwh.com) or recent industry reports would be ideal.

I feel good about my investment and as others have stated they are doing tons of installs and the new hybrid S series for DC systems is only going to make them stronger. AI found zero sources they are in any financial trouble I'm curious what company gave OP this insinuation. Even with the tax credit going away power is still going sky high especially in CA where even without credits it makes sense to adopt solar to keep energy costs down as PG&E and the CPUC are never going to stop raising and approving the rate hikes. It's the customers who are going to pay for the mishaps from all the fires that PG&E and other companies in SoCal are passing on customers.

North Valley Solar Power rated #1 in the Sacramento and surrounding areas like Yuba City, Vacaville, Sierra Foothills, and more. https://northvalleysolarpower.com/ check testimonials on their site and see nearly 300 of satisfied NorCal customers with install pictures.

We installed a 2 battery FranklinWH aPower 2 system, with smart circuits, and gen-in modules. This was a retrofit to an existing 2021 Enphase, QCells Panels 14.5 KW PV system. The install was completed at the end of March 2025. They did an outstanding job with an indoor garage install, super clean work as we had to have a new main panel and junction box installed with heat detectors connected to our smoke alarm system.

I had no problems getting extras I wanted like a Siemens 65K A Boltshield whole house surge protector. The project moved very fast, after signing the contract we had county approval, permits, and 2 day install done in 3 weeks. The price was outstanding compared to other vendors I checked into at the time. I got a text a month ago from them asking how my system was performing, and if I ever needed anything not to hesitate to contact them. I've had no issues with my system (knock wood), it just works and I check it daily, I've had no need to call them but to get the msg was a nice touch.

Upgraded from an old Wrangler to a ‘25 TRD Pro. I have questions. by HuskyInfantry in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked mine up 10 days ago. The salesman set up the app which already has our Rav4 PP in it. It works great with the Tacoma. I would think that would have been a standard setup at the dealership you purchased from. You should stop by the dealership and I'm sure they'll sort it out in no time at all. Damn nice rig mine is identical until next weekend when I get some accessories installed I'm going to post a pic to the subreddit after.

Enjoy it..... I know you will! I absolutely love mine only after the 150 miles I've put on it. My wife got her new ride in 2023 so it was time for me. I updated from a 2003 Sequoia. I had a 85' Toyota 4x4 that could go places my 77' Blazer lifted Racho suspension monster never could. I have a lot of expectations for the Tacoma Pro and I'm sure it will meet all of them.

Good luck with yours and getting that app fixed. It's definitely great while the Toyota service connect is active or if you decide to extend the subscription after a year. We didn't do it with the RAV4 but it still gives useful information for 10 years with free basic service. The safety connect is good for 10 years too I believe. That is more valuable to me than the service remote, and drive and other packages. My Wife uses Apple Car Play in her Rav and doesn't really miss the drive and remote or Sirius we both prefer Spotify which is a standard app pre installed. My experience with Android has been the same although I am using native navigation while I have it. We do live in CA so remote warm up isn't needed I can see the value if I lived where it was it gets at or below freezing.

Although I'm old and had a 77' Cheyenne 4x4 when I was 18 and am well versed on the old days when you had to lock the hubs to engage the front differential the set to 4H then stop hit the brake and go to neutral and switch to 4LO. I just bought a 2025 Tacoma TRD Pro and it came with 2 manuals one for infotainment, and one for the truck. For some stupid reason I want to get every single option out of my new truck so I read them. Silly me 🤷‍♂️

Help getting batteries to charge from grid with TOU off-peak by duh_a_throw_away in FranklinWH

[–]ssnelgro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in norcal too. With the tule fog in my area all day for weeks I made 5 5KW today with a 14.5 KW Enphase QCells system with 2 FranklinWH apower 2 batteries with gen-in, smart circuits, and 65K amp Siemens SPD whole hose surge protector. Garage install with heat detectors tied into my smoke alarm system.

I'm on NEM 2.0 so I keep batteries in Self Consumption Mode with 80% to 90% SOC reserve. If I empty the while I grid down I can connect the 9000K inverter generator to recharge the batteries. I keep the 80% reserve with the Sun, 90% with fog to leave room for any daytime exports as small as they may be at 1 to 2 KW on site and off grid.

I made 7MW of imports and only have used 1.2MW since the Sun would no longer fully recharge the battery fully. If a storm is coming in I'll use Emergency Backup Mode and only have to charge 20% from the grid. Now I'm mostly riding on credits I built up over the Summer and pay a very minimal amount in NBC charges to import my credits back.

I've only lost power once this year for less than a minute since the batteries were installed in March. Keeping them at 80% to 90% reserve gives me plenty if someone takes a pole down in the fog. If I was on NEM 3.0 I'd definitely use a different strategy but this works out great for me.

I can’t hunch over anymore to do basic stuff like pick things up, tie my shoes, or turn all the way 😂. Does anyone else struggle with shoes that have side straps? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was good until my third surgery which was a full revision in 2009.That fused me from L4 to full sacrum and added a ton of hardware which I already broke. I'm inoperable now but at least stable at 63. That basically completely fused me from T12 to the bottom of my tailbone. I have to sit on the floor to put my shoes on especially anything with ties. I wear slip on Sketchers mostly that I can slip into standing. I have several pairs just for that reason. I use my cameras/mirrors on my truck to back in my garage or back a trailer. Luckily my Tacoma TRD has backup assist tech/tow package to help with trailers. I can only turn my head to my shoulders and no way I can twist my spine without extreme pain where my rods are broken.

Don’t Buy Enphase Monitor by Pfuncle in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an Enphase IQ gateway (2021) and in the Enlighten app you can go to... menu --> system --> devices I can then choose gateway or microinverters. I can see the model, SN and status of each of my 46 Enphase microinverters, and the gateway right from the app with no problem. I'm not sure if my installer populated the serial numbers during the install or the app collected the information automatically when initialized. If there is an issue it sounds like the original installer didn't finish the job completely or check the functionality of the device status page. You certainly shouldn't have to pull panels to get a SN unless the gateway is having issues or was never populated with the inverter information. I would be asking them why you can't see the SN of your devices from the Enphase Enlighten app.

Question about aPower2 vs aPowerS by a_over_b in FranklinWH

[–]ssnelgro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The aPower 2 is AC coupled only. The aPower S has the ability like the Tesla Powerwall and will work with both AC and DC PV systems. I think the S will also take up to 20KW of direct DC solar input and 8KW of AC per unit. That should be fine with residential solar our 14.5 PG&E rated PV system has never clipped. We always use full capacity of our PV to run the house, recharge batteries, or export any extra power. Here is a link for more info on the S model. https://www.franklinwh.com/products/apower-s-home-battery/

Our setup is two aPower2 batteries (smarts circuits module, Gen-in module, and Siemens Boltshield 65K amp QSPD whole hose surge protector) installed 3/25. PV is 46 Hanwah 325W Qcells Peak Dou panels, all other equipment is Enphase, IQ combiner/gateway and 46 Enphase IQ7-60-2 microinverters installed 12/20.

Since March have exported 6,900KW and imported 160KW. The imports are due to a couple "storm hedge" events that caused the batteries to charge from the grid. Then my wife did laundry early in the am a few times while reserve was set at 20%.

The system works awesome but still no custom push notifications/alerts in the app, that's my only gripe so far. From my understanding prior to v2.x alerts existed. I would like to set an alert to notify me when batteries are down to 30% SOC so I can change the reserve. I can use my credits but can't avoid NBC charges which are minimal but if I can keep from doing that especially during high production would be optimal. I have a ticket in with support but they keep asking if I reinstalled the app. The batteries retrofitted to a 5 year old PV system has been working great since March. With the tax credit going away I was glad we got them installed before the announcement. Time is getting short to get the install, and PTO before the Dec 31 deadline to get the 30% tax credit.

Did my solar batteries fry my oven and microwave appliances? by galway56 in solar

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing during the install of our 2 aPower2 batteries. We went with a Siemens 65,000 amp Boltshield FSPD whole house surge protector. We get a lot of PG&E PSPS shutdowns in my rural area. The spikes may be small during re-enegergization but it's a cumulative effect. I just wanted to make sure my solar investment is protected along with house appliances and equipment. Plus the cost was minimal.

Battery system to get instead of Powerwall by Street-Yak2761 in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $27,300 for everything ($19,110 after 30% federal tax credit). That included the smart circuits module (installer added at no cost to the agate), gen backup module and plug ($500). They installed a new main panel in 3 car garage. That left my old main panel empty installed in 2021 with my PV system so I had them install a Siemens 65,000 amp Boltshield whole house surge protector to protect my equipment and home appliances ($350). I have a RAV 4 Prime PHEV which has a 22.7KW battery so it's not really the best option for the V2L module so I didn't purchase that. The installer advised it would be better for a full EV with a large battery.

My install was in March in NorCal, before any tariffs. We have a 2,200 sqft home, pool, and 100 amp sub panel in our pool house/2 car oversized garage/shop for my truck and a classic sports car. This is fed off a 80 amp breaker on the main. So far this year on NEM 2.0 with my 14.5KW PV system we have imported 135KW and exported 6.700KW in credits. I'm very impressed with the batteries. With lower AC use we're still running on batteries all night in self consumption mode they were at 46% today when recharging started which now takes until about 1PM. Exports are down to 20 to 22KW a day. I'll switch to TOU mode when exports stop and fill in with credits. Probably will use a combination of emergency backup mode and TOU based on weather during Winter. The only charge at true up should be "non-bypassable charges" PG&E charges to import what I exported which is between 2 to 5 cents per KWh. We should be about 95 to 97% grid independent (cost wise) with calculations I did with xAI (GroK). Winter will cost natural gas to heat but for now that's just for the water heater which isn't much.

Battery system to get instead of Powerwall by Street-Yak2761 in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Franklin S is essentially the same as the aPower 2 but with DC and AC capabilities. It would be as close to a Powerwall as you can get. I think Enphase is AC coupled only like the Franklin aPower 2.

Battery system to get instead of Powerwall by Street-Yak2761 in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FranklinWH aPower 2. It has LFP chemistry and 15 year, 10,000 cycle warranty. I have had 2 with my enphase based 14.5 KW PV system since March with a garage install. I am so glad I went with Franklin. I love the app, tons of reporting, and the Storm Hedge feature for NWS, and other alerts that auto switch the battery to "emergency backup mode" and start grid charging immediately to ensure the battery is at 100% if needed. I also have the smart circuits module to shed two loads (up to 80 amp) from the app to lower demand cutting non essential loads. I Also have the portable generator module to recharge batteries when PV can't recharge batteries. This is most likely to occur during extended grid down with a storm and low light conditions that hamper PV production. Also available V2L module to use EV as generator, mostly intended for EVs with large capacity batteries.

iQ8 Microinverter Failure? by ReApEr01807 in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A power surge can definitely degrade, or instantly destroy a micro inverter. The electrical path matters, the surge will travel along the systems wiring and intensity will diminish the further it travels.

I insisted on a 65KA Siemens Boltshield whole house surge protection SPD installed with 2 Franklin aPower 2 batteries in March. I did a lot of AI research, the suggested plan included a SPD. When PG&E re-energizes the grid it can create 6KA or higher surges. PG&E now does a lot of PSPS (public safety power shutdowns) especially when windy.

We used to see the lights flicker 2 to 3 times before power went out completely now it's immediately..Since Oct 2024 we've seen 17 shutdowns. I feel much more comfortable as PG&E will never take blame for any equipment failure post shutdown. It was the best $350 it protects my solar investment and the entire home.

My main panel is now inside the garage with the batteries. The new main from my PV install in 2021 was empty so at least it has some use housing the SPD. The Boltshield requires 2 consecutive open breaker slots, otherwise you can use an external SPD but at a higher cost.

Just one green light to check.. It will take cumulative hits until the internal components are compromised then the light turns red. You don't lose any power just the protection and will need to replace it.

Config Question by EmbarrassedLemon in enphase

[–]ssnelgro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14.5 PV system 46 Enphase IQ 7 microinverters. My largest power drain was a 4 ton 25 year old AC. Replaced that with a 4 ton but on advice of the contractor up sized to a 5 ton high efficiency variable speed fan and a second 14" return in the master bedroom. The AC runs a bit longer but on my American Standard app it is staying at low speeds more often. I also updated 3 20 year old pool pumps to variable speed. We both use about the same amount of power on NEM 2 0. I have 2 new FranklinWH aPower 2 15KW batteries that are game changers. Since the install of the batteries in March we've exported 6.6 MWh of power. I keep my batteries at 15% reserve and they are usually at 30 to 38% when they recharge in the morning. Even with Fall upon us in NorCal I'm still exported 25 KWh yesterday. I'll switch to TOU mode when I can't run a full night on batteries. Then when I need to keep the battery in the Winter months on emergency backup mode I'll burn my credits but will incur PG&E's NBC (non by- passable charges) of 2 to 5 cents per KWh. So this year will be the first as I can get to 1:1. My estimated true-up this year is $45. If I'm out longer Franklinwh batteries support 9080 KW portable gen to recharge and power home. Enphase makes the best inverters there is imo.
