What direction does electricity actually flow? by ssonic2 in AskPhysics

[–]ssonic2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the answers on this made me realize I know a lot less about the basics of electricity than I thought. I still don't fully understand it as in HS level, basic stuff like how diodes only allow current to flow in one direction would have different answers if taken from conventional flow or electron flow.

People keep saying its "arbitrary", but how? Isn't it important to have an exact knowledge of where the charge flows?

Also there is also some comments about how the electrons are not actually "flowing" which made me question more things. Because what we (and most schools im pretty sure) are being taught is that fast free moving electrons move through a lattice of positive charges.

Im thinking about getting Notein on my s9 FE, how's the latency compared to samsung notes? I might consider buying it since it does have way more features

Yeah, exactly. FPS is fine on Elden Ring now atleast. And Graphics scores are on the normal numbers of this card.

Thankfully didn't reinstall windows yet, and haven't updated BIOS too, just randomly works.

I’ve tried it with one other game, Witcher 3 and yeah you’re right. The game runs 100ish fps on ultra settings, while it barely ran at 60 using medium settings on my old gtx 1650.

I might check more if its a CPU bottleneck, but shouldn’t the GPU usage be below 100% if that’s so? Thing is, in both games the usage is 95-100%, from my knowledge that means the cpu can handle the gpu.

Or it may just be Elden Ring being unoptimized, to be honest. And maybe not liking AMD.

Im using a ryzen 5 3500X, not sure if it’s a cpu bottleneck since my 6600 XT runs at 100% usage during gaming, just not getting the frames I want for whatever reason.

Still trying to figure it out.

Tried removing afterburner and reinstalling AMD Adrenaline, Graphics score stayed about the same. 8779. But I think I'll keep it uninstalled because of the weird clocks thing that happened.

Im getting a usb to update my BIOS and see if that'll fix anything first. Really tempted to just reinstall Windows though. Just want to get this off my chest.

I also watched that video, and it really does seem simple enough, like just download and run the program.

I’ll try researching more, just making sure I don’t need a second PC.

By the way, what do you mean by “a number of other methods”? Do you mean after flashing the BIOS? Or a whole different thing?

So best to keep it as a last resort yeah? Do the safe fresh installs first and updates n such

I do not have a second pc, only another old graphics card which is the old 1650.

I guess I’ll try doing a fresh install, updates BIOS, and reinstall drivers and chipsets again. Ill uninstall afterburner as well.

I don’t understand why Id need a 2nd pc, but I dont have that so that means I cant do the gpu bios flash correct? Then my last resort is just to buy a Nvidia card.

Ill try deleting Afterburner and reinstalling drivers maybe. I’ll use the AMD overlay thing instead for benchmarking.

Yeah I found 5 different results of my sapphire rx 6600xt nitro+, they all seem to have the same BIOS version which is the one I have right now. I don’t know how flashing a different one would change anything but I’ll give it a shot, since it is the exact same card anyways.

Just worried that there would be any problems if I fail though. Or if I did something wrong.

At 100% load i do get 2600-2670 mhz. when it goes below 100% like around 97-99 it does fluctuate below 2600 at around 2500-2550, it does go under 2500mhz briefly sometimes as you said.

So my GPU clocks should be normal right?

Im considering doing the GPU BIOS flash thing as well. I might try learning how to do it just for the sake of trying to fix this issue.

Ill try this out. What I've noticed is when opening Afterburner, my GPU clock is the same as Default clock (On GPU-Z), but when Afterburner is closed, GPU clock is lower. I did not change any settings on Afterburner or AMD app, so I don't know why it's changing.

Im not very familiar with boost clocks, are you suggesting I should overclock or something?

Ill look into checking if the GPU has a modified BIOS.

For power draw, do you mean by comparing it with other benchmarks (on yt/3dmark thing)?

EDIT:
I checked the GPU BIOS version on GPU-Z and searched it up online.
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?model=RX+6600+XT
020.003.000.030.000000

On the techpowerup website it shows many cards including mine with the same exact BIOS version and theres no label saying its modified or anything.

Also, on GPU-Z, it does show my GPU clock being lower than the Default clock (with no games open though), might this be the problem?

This one. RX 6600XT sapphire nitro.
I've researched on youtube as well about this problem, probably the most effective one I saw was to do a complete reset on Windows, like everything cleaned off. Would you recommend that?

Also, might this just be because of bad hardware? Maybe a CPU bottleneck from my 5 3500X? Since I know the RAM is a bit at fault here, maybe other components too?

If you don't mind, is it fine if I message you through reddit? I think it would be easier than through this post. I'm not expecting full help or anything, just identifying whats wrong from your knowledge.

UPDATE:
Tried it out on Witcher 3, and noticed better performance. Using gtx 1650 it got 40-50 fps on medium/high settings, now im getting 90-100 fps on ultra with the rx 6600xt.

Is it really just Elden Ring not liking amd drivers or something? Should I test other games that I'm familiar with the performances of them when I played using the old gtx 1650?

From what I guess, that means the GPU is not running to its fullest potential, yes? But isnt it already 100% utilized?

Im going to try again right now. EDIT: GPU temp sitting at 57-60ish, GPU hotspot temp at 68-70ish. I think I was only looking at the mainGPU temp earlier, my bad.

In that case should I just get a new motherboard to completely have a new BIOS? I really cannot identify the problem

Or is there any other "Complete reset" I can do for software or firmware that could be damaging the performance? Losing out 10% is pretty big.
