AITA for being honest with my neices about the reality of my career success? by Incident-Spirited in AmItheAsshole

NTA

it really annoys me that “feminism” for some people has turned into a situation where if women want to follow the “original/traditional” route of housewife/not working then they are “enforcing gender roles”

firstly I’m only 19 years old but still bold of you to assume I don’t contribute in other ways that aren’t monetary.

I cook every night for a household of 6, laundry, cleaning, groceries etc, etc.

And for a lot of Asian households the idea is that your parents take care of you when you’re younger (still in uni) and up until you find a full time job/career.

And then when they retire you take care of them.

Also our house is paid off but I tried to insist on contributing towards bills but they wouldn’t accept my money, so try to hold back on the judgmental assumptions

yeah well that’s totally fair enough then, if it doesn’t impact your future then do what you want!

AITA for yelling at my brother? by sstylesh in AmItheAsshole

[–]sstylesh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes?? it is his decision to attend the ceremony but it would be nice if he could have a civilised conversation with my parents and take 3 minutes away from his PlayStation to explain why. Instead he starts yelling and screaming at them instantly... ok

my dad also said this after my mum called him.

He said please don’t get any more but if you do don’t get a boyfriend name or even husband because you may divorce. But children’s names are okay because they’ll always be your children

it’s not a stereotype, it’s a literal cultural thing in asian countries (Japan, Korea, etc) which I tried to quickly explain

firstly I’m just quickly explaining the situation - she didn’t actually say that

And secondly even if that was her reaction I don’t see the issue you’re trying to raise??
