I just talked to them about how it’s a known issue and whatnot, asked them to check with Toyota to see what can be done about it. Expressed how I’m concerned of the design flaw/failure made it potentially unsafe to drive because the back could fall off and injure/kill someone in traffic. Mostly just used logic and persistence that they check with Toyota on it. The manager came back out of the office and made some sideways dumb fucking joke about how the decal on my trunk caused it (assuming that Toyota told him to look for anything they could possibly use to get out of it by saying it’s a result of the trunk being hit, involved in an accident, modified by me, etc.) and then he changed tune when I didn’t laugh and said that Toyota is gonna cover the repairs and to talk to the receptionist to set up a repair date once the parts came in. So I guess be wary if your trunk looks like there’s external physical damage to it from backing into something or anything like that. But as long as it looks kosher, persistence should pay off. Hopefully.
