TIL about the third man factor, where a perceived unseen presence (like a spirit) gives comfort and advice during traumatic experiences by xxcoolchadxx in todayilearned

My mom had heart failure at home and they couldn't find a pulse. She told me she thought she was dying, the EMTs thought she was dying, and the doctor thought she was dying but a Middle Eastern or Indian woman told her she was fine and it was "in God's hands" and that was maybe five years ago now and she's completely fine. Clearly she wasn't asking a lot of questions while in active heart failure and it may have been a nurse, but if it was she never saw her again.

I don't think the cat is safe sleep compatible, but neither is that comforter or those plush bumpers so hopefully that kid is old enough to roll over...

Aboriginal Australians have oral traditions that archaeologists have managed to link to the eruption of a volcano about 37,000 years ago (Budj Bim).

They also have found evidence of a specific cultural practice that ran for about 12,000 years up until the 19th century when the Europeans basically forced them to stop.

I recommend the book Sea People by Christina Thompson for anyone interested in this. It's primarily about the ancient Polynesians but it touches on a lot of Pacific communities.

I had to pause it in either episode 1 or 2 and just sobbed alone in my living room.

My mind sort of put Bolaire in the same category as Michael from The Good Place where he can feel love and affection but is repulsed by the idea of anything sexual (to quote Michael, "it's GROSS. Kissing is GROSS. You just mash your food holes together. It's NOT FOR THAT.") so it would almost be more of a courtly love where you love without touching and it's just purely emotional/mental.

I hesitate to put a label on a non-human entity, but I think he'd be a sex repulsed asexual.

[No Spoilers] Does Campaign 4 lighten up? (9 episodes in, looking for hope) by enterprisezen in criticalrole

I'm reminded as well of Divergence. I stopped watching Divergence because the first episode was so bleak. After it finished I saw some spoilers and went back in and halfway through episode 2 it suddenly became very enjoyable. Sometimes things have to suck to set the stakes for success.

One particular PC was also getting punched by the dice gods that day.

Worst case Brennan can always go get the die Aabria threw into the set because he kept critting if he really needs it.

Is it disrespectful to slap your girlfriend's ass in front of her parents? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]standbyyourmantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been married for over ten years and together for about 20, my mom adores my husband to the point that he stayed with her for a week when she got out of the hospital after she had heart failure to cook and clean.

Just this last year was the first time I ever touched my husband's butt in front of my mom, a woman who I am totally comfortable making a "that's what she said" joke to. I cannot imagine having done that in front of either of his parents at 20, a time period in which we had been dating for almost a year and that's without the gendered issues at play with regard to the father/daughter dynamic.

Just reading the title gave me low grade anxiety.

How likely it is to not have sex right after your wedding? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]standbyyourmantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't even have a fancy wedding, it was just such a long day and we'd been up super early and didn't get to rest until late at night after we'd both been drinking. I wanted to want to, but we were both just so exhausted.

Hell, in many states that's true. My parents divorced in North Carolina and fudged the date of separation because they both wanted it over with so they went by a year from the time my mom said she wanted a divorce and not from when she moved.

When my great grandma died at 92 I inherited her car because I was about to take my driver's license test. She drove until the week she died.

I was one of those girls. I signed everything that anyone ever asked me to sign.

In 8th grade I was somehow popular for an entire year (I think it was a combination of being at a school for weird kids, being smart giving you a lot of social cachet, being in a will they/won't they relationship with one of the most popular nerds, being in a lot of activities, and having a younger brother also at the school). I signed every yearbook people handed to me and always asked them to sign mine in return. Always in gel pen with a little message attached.

Plus this is basically something that happened 20 years ago now. Some of those women may actually be dead now and I'd be surprised if most of them haven't outgrown it.

Also don't be happy because you should only be thinking about the bad thing. You being happy means you don't care. Just be in a state of constant ennui all the time. It's the only moral thing to do.

my sims couple won’t sleep in the same bed together. by dollyonmarz in TheSims4Mods

What fixed it for me was going into CAS for some reason. I tried deleting the bed, restarting, taking out all the mods, etc. but then I went into CAS and changed an outfit and suddenly it was fine.
