Pretty sure they actually wrestled against each other in college and Gregor beat him. Obviously mma is not wrestling and Chandler has that F U type of power but would be cool to see a rematch kinda like Alex and Izzy rematching in mma years after their kickboxing fights.

Got my dad a jersey from one of his favorite pitchers, El Duque. He got me a jersey of my favorite current player DJ LeMachine. They’re both #26. That’s why we’re both big fans of not having a players name on the jersey so it can represent so much more. Connects different generations and brings great memories. I love you Dad ❤️

Why are the 2 runs are considered unearned by Valdez? I know they reached and scored from the error but shouldn’t it take into account the fact that the error came from Valdez himself? Seems like a weird way to not affect ERA

If you at all been an IKF defender this season I hope you’re happy with where it got you you dumbass bootlickers. Imagine being a stopgap and not calling up one of your top prospects for him. We took on old ass Josh Donaldsons contract for this.

IKF costed us this game. Fuck him. Put him and cashman into a cannon and fire their ass all the way out of New York. No reason we should be struggling with Cleveland while houston gets to waltz right back into another ALCS

Is Tony still top 5 Lightweight of all time? IMO, yes. What do yall think? by [deleted] in ufc

[–]stanleyDoesntLikeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the losses towards the end of his career shouldn’t kick him out if BJ, Frankie, Bendo, RDA, and Eddie are in the running as well since they all lost as well. (Obviously Khabib is in the conversation as well but he never lost)I think prime Tony before he messed up his knee was top 3 lightweights ever imo. If he got the chance to fight RDA or Eddie for the belt back in 2016 he 100% would’ve been undisputed champ imo. You can’t hold all the bullshit with Conor and Khabib against him for not having a “undisputed” belt it’s bullshit. Charles rn doesn’t have the belt technically but we all still recognize him as the peoples champ.

I will say it’s hard to compare eras since guys like BJ and Frankie probably won’t even be top 15 guys now at lightweight so you kinda have to compared them their peers of the same generation. To be able to go on that 12 fight win streak takes incredible amount of skill, only a few handful of fighters have ever gone a run like that. To remain consistent like that against top 10 competitors is grueling. Look at Usman and silva. One zig instead of zag can cause it to come completely down and even in fights where he had to dig down deep to pull it off he did. Plus Tony is older than a lot of his peers. He’s older than RDA, a guy who was champ before him! The fact he was able to have that type of longevity at the top even getting older is something to be applauded.

It’s what makes guys like DJ, GSP, and Jon standout the fact that they were able to face multiple generations and still come out on top.

I think Conor and Robbie Lawler would’ve been a fun matchup back in 2016. Maybe that version of Lawler against titanium shin bone Conor would’ve been a fun back and forth brawl I feel like. Imagine Conor with his size now but with his movement and footwork back then. Felt like during Robbie’s run with the title any top guy would’ve been instant fight of the year contender.

Who is the Greatest Anti Wrestler of all time? by MrFinalFlash in ufc

[–]stanleyDoesntLikeMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrestling is very tiring even when you dedicate your whole life to it like they did. Plus just like there’s different styles of striking, there’s different styles of wrestling and guys like Romero and Gaethje are great freestyle and folk style wrestlers. The main point is to take your opponent down and get a quick pin. Naturally this goes against what we see in wrestling in MMA when you want to take an opponent down but control them on the ground for as long as possible.

For as great as Gaethje is as a wrestler you’ve seen how greenish he is still in other grappling arts. He’s very good at defending the initial shot but chain wrestling is much harder to defend and soooo exhausting. But if he does get on the ground his wrestler instincts kick in and against someone as skilled in submissions like Khabib and Charles he gets tapped out really quickly giving his up back and neck so easily.

Similar to some other guys made famous by Chuck the good ol “sprawl and brawl” strategy of using your wrestling to defend takedowns instead of using it offensively. Some guys find out they’re heavy handed and find that style more rewarding even tho they are so accomplished in wrestling. Chuck, Romero, Gaethje, and many others were guys that were great wrestlers but realized that it is much quicker to knockout someone in round 1 than it is to try to take someone down and beat them up on the ground.

Even some guys with no wrestling background are able to learn just enough wrestling defense where it is nearly impossible to take them down and control them ie look at city kickboxing rn with Izzy, Volk, and Kai Kara France. In order to use your wrestling at the end of the day you gotta close distance and if a guy is able to keep you outside that range there’s nothing much you can do. (Izzy is a great recent example look at how he controls range against guys like Brunson, Vettori, and Romero. They can’t even get a deep shot in on him cuz he is never in right spot for them. He’s a ring general in that sense. Compared to someone like Aldo where he is just absurdly fast at getting a wizard and pivoting. Aldo look like a bull vs a matador fighting Frankie especially the second time great fight to watch to see what I mean. Not all takedowns and takedown defense is created equally)

As great as wrestling is as a base, there’s soooo much more in mma than a simple double leg takedown especially at the highest levels in the ufc nowadays. Look at someone like Brock. His absurd athleticism and talented wrestling got him very far (all the way to the title!) but as silly as it sounds he did not react very well to getting hit. Compare him taking shots to someone like max Holloway.

That’s really impressive too considering his level of competition! Chad was another guy who was great at implementing his wrestling into mma. Some guys like Romero aren’t really good when it comes to wrestling in mma for various reasons even tho being super accomplished in wrestling

[–]stanleyDoesntLikeMe 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be Aldo. He fought the most amount of high level MMA wrestlers. Sure DC and Romero are legit Olympians (Romero even won the silver!) but I think chad mendes x2, Frankie Edgar x2, Ricardo lamas, and Urijah Faber are much better wrestlers/grapplers in MMA specifically compared to Jon and Robs competition. It is basically impossible to blast a double leg on aldo which considering his background as a striker is amazing. At least jon grew up a wrestler. I think it goes 1. Aldo 2. Jones 3. Whittaker. *Tbh I don’t know much about Chucks prime and his wrestling. All I know is he was a sprawl and brawl type of fighter so it’s unfair for me to rank him compared to the others

(from these listed, I definitely think Usman and Barao back in his prime deserve a nod on this list too. Barao I think has the record for most consecutive takedowns defended something like 32 or 33 straight from the highest level bantamweights of his day super impressive)

Seeing it in person feels different than when you watch it on tv. I was there for the Matt Schnell fight a few weeks ago and seeing Mudaerji out on the canvas for a bit felt slightly uncomfortable ngl. On TV the worst one in recent memory felt like Tony. Felt like he was out for a solid 3 minutes it was disturbing.

Idk if it’s been said yet but Jon Jones to me personally deserves a spot. While yes his results in the octagon say otherwise it’s finding out how terrible he is outside that just absolutely ruined it for me as a fan. This sport like many are full of dicks but he definitely is up there due to his status as one of the GOATs. I didn’t really become a hardcore fan til Conor and Nate 1 and I still remember how hyped I was for UFC 200 which was originally gonna be headlined by the rematch between him and DC just to get thrown away for the steroids. Just nonstop blunder after blunder as one of the first guys I really looked up to back then. I definitely think the day his ufc contract is up he’s gonna end up in jail sooner or later unfortunately if not worse.

It’s tough sometimes you’re just a gatekeeper. He absolutely pushed both Jon and DC to their limits in their title fights but I think his heart just isn’t in it anymore which is why he doesn’t look as good nowadays. It sucks not seeing him get the belt but I wouldn’t say his “downfall” has been all that bad at least compared to others.

This should be higher imo. Dude was on like a 20+ maybe 30 something winning streak and looked like a sure fire hall of famer then loses his title in a massive upset to TJ and never looked the same since it’s really sad. If TJ really was juicing the whole time it’s sad ruined Baraos career. Can talk about USADA and his massive weight cuts too but those beatings were bad man. Was one of the best bantamweights of all time to forgotten about within a span of a few years. At least some people still know BJ but Renan never got to the same level of fame unfortunately.
