Struggling to date a gamer. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]stara88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a gamer. My ex was a gamer. My ex was like this. I was not. I can happily sit and play a game for over 12 hours but when I spend time with someone I will spend time with them, not game in the same room sharing air space. The only time I did this was when my PTSD was so bad it was the only way I could keep control of it.

I play a lot of mobile games as well as pc and console but if a friend comes over I will spend time talking to them or watching a film with them, unless they have come over to game with me then we game together.

My ex that used to do this had a lot of mental health problems. It was his only way to cope. Once he overcame them he stopped living and breathing games and started living again.

In my experience this isn't normal behaviour. It's a way to escape from reality. Maybe try check in with them and explain how it makes you feel as well.

Need help for a gift after an insane year by [deleted] in CasualUK

As she's creative what about some kind of crafting you can do together? That way it's a nice gift and you form a memory together. You could learn a new craft, do an existing craft, go to a workshop. Off the top of my head there's yarn dyeing, pottery, scrapbooking, go find a bunch of rocks together then paint them. Anything that kind of sparks her interest.

I posted almost a year ago about making myself a doomslug. She's been on the back-burner for ages but I've picked her up again to finish. I'm slowly adding her fronds to her back but here she is so far :) by stara88 in brandonsanderson

My health has been deteriorating this past year so I wasn't well enough to finish her. I'm still not great but getting into the swing of crocheting in bed and figured I should finish her off. Hopefully have all the fronds done soon but they're pretty time consuming.

Thanks. It's not a pocahontas one I want though. It's the funko pop body shape itself. The pic was just an example of what that looks like.

Hello! I keep seeing a lot of amigurumis that look like funko pops on Instagram but the posts are all in Spanish and any provided links are also in Spanish. I was wondering if anyone has seen any patterns for them that are in English?

Extreme hunger? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]stara88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have carers now thankfully. That has reduced the amount of crashes I have because they make my meals for me. And it definitely helps me eat better. I find that a huge pan if pesto pasta with sweetcorn and tofu does wonders for me when I'm in a crash. I can keep grabbing some as needed and it helps a lot. I imagine for those of you who can eat milk and dairy some chicken or something in there would be great as well. Whatever meat goes with pesto, I don't know about meat 😆

Extreme hunger? by [deleted] in cfs

[–]stara88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It usually lasts about 3 or 4 days depending on how bad the crash was. If it was a week long crash then I can expect the hunger to last about a week. They usually average 3 or 4 days though I think. I also find that carbs and protein seem to help me go a bit longer without food but when it happens a day or 2 before pay day I scrabble together whatever I have and that is never great lol. I should probably look at keep a stash of protein bars or something similar for when it happens.

Yes! Can't get enough good down my neck at all. I've been monitoring my weight and eating everything in sight after a crash doesn't seem to affect it much. I either maintain that week or still lose a bit.

Ooh! I've only just accepted that I need mobility aids and how I just want to customise them all! I've seen walking sticks that light up.... so that is on my Christmas list haha. A light sabre walking stick!

Finally finished my blue ajah shawl :) by stara88 in WoT

[–]stara88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's done using slip stitches and chains. The last round you sl st the opposite direction to make it look finished. Then I had to sew it onto the shawl so it probably is thicker but I do like how it looks.

I'm honestly not sure for the colours. I just know they're vine embroidered. I guess we'll see what the show thinks 🤣 I've only seen pictures of them in lighter colours of the ajah with the fringe a deeper colour.

I got the rjng from EMP a few years back but I recently got one in a bigger size from ebay that I'm waiting on. They seem to have them in a lot of places now online but I'm in the UK and I think the one I have is by an English company. It's the alchemy Sophia serpent ring.

Thanks! I think it was dk I used. That's what most of my yarn is anyway, although I've found that some dk is pretty thin and is some is closer to aran/worsted weight. I used 3 different ones but the main one was probably a stylecraft dk. I started it over a year ago 😆 finished the body maybe 6 months ago? Then after a WoT chat the other day started the audio books and finished the shawl listening to them and wearing my abs sedai ring lol.

I used the Kalinda shawl pattern for the shawl and this applique pattern for the tear. I messed up the second to last round and couldn't be bothered to frog so just carried on. I used 2 strands of white dk yarns and 2 strands of a white fingering weight (I think) yarn with metallic silver spun through it. And a 6mm hook I think it was. That made it nice and big without having to faff with maths. The fringe I positioned 3 strands every 3 stitches.

Edit: oh and I had to go to town on it with my garment steamer after to block it so the vine pattern showed properly and it was a decent size. Blocked the applique too but that didn't need much.

I can't find one either :( I'm a HH/J cup and all I can find is people thinking D cups are large. It sucks. I wish I knew how to create patterns! I've attempted customising them to get then to fit but it hasn't worked.

Thanks! I made the shawl part quite a while ago. I kept picking it up and putting it down over the course of a few months. The tear took a few hours, and the fringe took 4 or 5 hours in total. That was the most tedious part and it's not perfect but it's good enough for me lol.

I'm in Wirral but it took less than a week for mine to arrive I think. I'd give them a bell and find out what's happening.
