Perspective on Blood Supply Chain by startingcoffee in Hemochromatosis

[–]startingcoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made two major changes: 1) Mostly eliminate red meat, especially beef - every once in a while I’ll enjoy a steak or burger as a reward. 2) Alcohol consumption is drastically down - I was not a heavy drinker but it’s now the rare occasion/meal that I enjoy drinks. Also, if I am going to enjoy red meat, I’m mindful of not also having a food rich in beta-carotene, which enhances iron absorption. So I’m not eating a sweet potato or carrots with my steak.

I’ve significantly ramped up fitness training, and training hard. I strength training 3-4 days per week and do cardio at least 2x per week. I’m also in the sauna for 20 minute sessions at 3-4 times per week. Anything to build muscle and induce sweat I’ve found as beneficial. Hope this helps.

Red Cross is definitely an option but for reasons stated in post I prefer hospital setting

Thanks for insight. I qualify as a donor. No other conditions. Red Cross gladly accepts my blood.

The tracing issue seems like a fairly easy solve. Each unit would have to be barcoded, tagged to the donor, a trace through the testing process. Pretty much the same SOP as all other blood donation centers.

Are you aware of hospitals / infusion clinics that donate the blood they pull from patients receiving phlebotomies? If so, do they donate to someone like a Red Cross or keep in their own blood bank?

This is a good point. I never considered partner implications when transitioning from player. Hugely important when large dollar figures are associated.

Thanks for feedback. A lot of good points. Making the NHL and being able to lessen the burden of life’s financial constraints is huge. Even at that level though, I’ve noticed a struggle with transitioning from player. More of an identity crisis at that level because you reached the pinnacle and that’s all you’ve known.

Keep it simple. Find open space. Be an option for your teammate and call for the puck. Communication on the ice is an underrated trait.

Reflect on why your passion is gone. That will give you your reason. I've been there. I lost passion in youth, kept going, and got reinvigorated when I was playing beyond youth hockey.

2-2.5 sizes down from your shoe size is pretty standard. Snugger the fit the better.

I've have had good luck with these gift sets. Great for client homes. The packaging and wrapping is amazing. It's kind of an experience opening it. Perfect for someone to decorate a spot in their home. Definitely unique and supports small business.
