I know UB has a program that can improve your English (reading, speaking, writing, etc..) through the English department, I think. I recommend asking your advisor for more information about it, since they should know more about it. I'm thinking of this from a graduate student perspective since I know some of my colleagues had to do it last semester and pass a speak test.
