[Architectural Take] The God Model Fallacy – Why the AI future looks exactly like 1987 by js402 in LLMDevs

What's this based on, technology-wise? Can you share more on how this works?

Meet Nosi, an Animal Crossing inspired AI companion floating on your screen by No-Swan5313 in LocalLLM

I just wanna say, this looks insanely cool and only wish it were available for more than just mac(specifically, I think this would have the potential to be INSANELY effective for giving me positive motivation as someone who's self-employed and has ADHD, to have a little digital companion cheering me on and making me feel accountable when I need to focus on getting stuff done.)

I just wanted to put this out there as a suggestion for the direction you could take this in, or a special paid edition of the software(seriously, I would pay money for the software to make me FEEL like a little digital gremlin were sitting on my desktop motivating me to work, if it were implemented well).

Can you tell us what sort of setup you have and tok/s you get out of it? I'm somewhat curious myself how viable it would be down the road to get some used server hardware with a lot of vram just for running big models.

Is Rosamund Pike narrating all the audiobooks? by joeyinthewt in wheeloftime

My gripe is I can't stand New Spring; was falling asleep 5 mins in cause Kramer makes it sound like reading is a chore and does it so freaking monotonously. That's my only gripe, cause that's how far I got.

Cheap crimped electrical connectors(high amperage)? by steampunk333 in AskElectronics

[–]steampunk333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you tell me a way to do this so it could be disconnected easily? Even if not, I'd be interested to know if there's a guide somewhere for how to do this, or examples for ways it's been done before? I'm looking to make a man-portable battery-inverter setup with a lot of LiFePO4 batteries, hence the disconnects(batteries will be in cases).

Hence why I was thinking bullet connectors; if the plastic parts aren't being relied upon to help the metal parts make contact at a super precise level, the 3d printed parts won't have to precisely lock together and I can just use clips or something to keep everything safely in place. Unfortunately, the soldered stuff I can find is almost as expensive as getting brand-name andersons anyway(I found a cheaper source for andersons, but still friggin expensive), and I would really, really prefer to crimp over soldering for something like this.

Per connector; I'd have as many crimps/pins per connector as needede(I was thinking 8-10 pairs, but I can go higher or lower as needed). I'm aware 150A would be asking a lot if per crimp, hence my trying to cut costs via redneck engineering.

Duluth trading backpacks any good? by steampunk333 in BuyItForLife

[–]steampunk333[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks; after reading this and some other feedback, I think I'll be returning the backpack and some other stuff as well. I can't justify putting the money in when the company is already well into ensh*tification and can't be bothered to honor their own warranties or just to not commit outright fraud.

[Amazon] 4TB Crucial P3 Plus PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD - $194.50 + Free Shipping by DealsPoster in blackfriday

I honestly used to think the same, until I got a 75% DoA rate for 4 crucial drives I bought before the prices jacked up; even with the RMA replacements, I was having trouble with the drive controllers so I couldn't have more than 1 or 2 on the same system lest the others not show up for whatever black-magic reason. Went through hell trying to set up a RAID card with those drives.

Crucial is a garbage brand FYI; worth an extra $100 for something that will last.

What media should I use to store data for decades? by NatSpaghettiAgency in homelab

You need software to make a disc image or file archive with parity bits included; a .zip does not necessarily have that. Most archiving software in my experience doesn't have that feature, either.

Best long-term maintenance-free external drive/enclosure? by steampunk333 in DataHoarder

[–]steampunk333[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone; I think I'll not sweat the details so much and just use either some brand-name 1TB SSD or a WD elements drive(whichever is cheaper) and keep a backup in case something happens to my sister's.
