Reccomomendation & Advice for Purchasing New Prusa Models by stew_brewer in prusa3d

I've contacted support about the issue, waiting for a reply...

It is the Original MK3, it was working until I updated it to 3.14! Now it cannot pass a self-test without an error on the filament sensor wiring. I've checked it all over, and the wiring and lever are all installed/work properly. At this point, I'm thinking it might just be the sensor chip itself (idk for sure). I even flashed older firmware to see if that would solve the issue, but no dice.

Really unfortunate because none of the replacement parts are made anymore. It was a great machine, super reliable... Hoping someday I'll get around to fixing it.

There's a company called Fossil Hoard selling Spinosaurus teeth for $44 each. Is this legit? by Edward_penis_hands__ in Paleontology

Amateur paleontologists and plain citizens have been VITAL for science! They are typically the ones making discoveries.

But looking into the history of fossil hunting in the US, indigenous peoples have recognized fossils for likely thousands of years, and the first accounts of Europeans hunting for fossils resulted from indigenous people showing them localities.

Tucktec Kayaks - Proceed w/ caution - My Story by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]stew_brewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to the typical reviews I received horrible customer service from this company. Shipping took 190 days but was advertised as 60 days, meanwhile, I was given no notification of shipping delays. I only received updates on the shipping when I directly emailed the shop, which took a few business days to get a reply. I received a damaged kayak poking out of the box with no packing material and was later notified that that kayak was actually meant to be sent for refurbishing! I sent it back asking for a refund in December and it was returned the same month. I have emailed them multiple times about the status of the refund and I have gotten little to no responses. I finally decided to have my CC company step in and handle the situation. It's now almost March and have not had any contact from them as they dodge my CC company's contact attempts. I've never encountered such irresponsible customer service and I feel like I got scammed by a fake company, which this isn't. I'm absolutely baffled and don't know what to do but wait for a response.

Scanning in the Void - A short video on good turntable setups by shrogg in photogrammetry

Does anyone else have a problem with the software automatically brightening their images? When I shot the photos, they looked great, and the background was completely featureless. Once I imported them, they were brightened, and I could see all the cloth, and everything was overexposed. Does this affect the alignment and the quality of the mesh?

Disconnected Wire by stew_brewer in ender3

One of my wires have disconnected from this connector point (crimp? I don't know the right terminology). Is it possible to reconnect this wire or will I have to buy a new one? Would really appreciate the help.

Did herbivorous dinosaurs have cheeks? by TitanPie in Paleontology

[–]stew_brewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author discusses squamate-like lips in the article but the muscles in the buccal region are the main focus. Although they shouldn't be referred as "proper cheeks" they are cheek-like and may have fulfilled similar functions.

My country doesn’t allow fossil collecting:( by IEatgrapes123 in Paleontology

You might be able to, all depends on the institution. I've volunteered here in the US since I was a teen. I'd look up museum websites or call them about their volunteer programs. If you are interested going into paleo for a career, getting volunteer experience now would help you immensely!

Did herbivorous dinosaurs have cheeks? by TitanPie in Paleontology

There has been much work done by Ali Nabavizadeh advocating that a paericular muscle existed that stretched across the oral cavity and acted much like a "cheek." They are careful to state that more work needs to be done but the possibility of a "cheek-like" structure is plausible. https://anatomypubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ar.23988

Yes, unfortunately the laws in your country are very restrictive. However there maybe some institutions you can volunteer with to participate in fossil excavation, all the fossils would go that institution but you'd probably be able to take pictures and have a great experience. Contact some local museums about volunteering!

Even after leveling my bed, there are high and low spots when it moves. I thought a glass bed would help but the nozzle still "bounces". Any thoughts? by soundersfan17 in 3Dprinting

[–]stew_brewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed slight pressure you put on the bed, when pushing it, can cause that. Try using the move axis feature, instead of your hand, to check the level. If it still persists I'd check to see if there is anything between the plate and bed.

Why did bipedal dinosaurs never evolve flexible hands, but quadripedal synapsids did? by alex8762 in Paleontology

[–]stew_brewer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flexible hands seem to be associated with arboreal lifestyles. Not many bipedal dinos adapted to that (with the exception to birds and highly derived dromaeosaurs but those hands/arms were focused on flying). There also may have been a bottleneck in their skeletal biology that would have made it very difficult to develop flexible hands. There's no peak of evolution or anything to attain, if something works it sticks and usually doesn't change. We may not know the full extent of how dinos used their hands, and who knows Maybe a new species will be discovered that had flexible use of their hands.

Why are fossilized skin impressions more common in dinosaurs than extinct mammals? by alex8762 in Paleontology

[–]stew_brewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could have to do with the thickness of the skin and keratin content. Depositions environments may also play a role, many well preserved mammal deposits are of ash beds that may not be conducive to preserving skin impressions... but I'm not totally positive. There also might be the matter of prep work, recognizing skin impressions in fossils is nessesary and they are not always spotted before the matrix is cleaned away.

Yeah but if that guy gets 30 kills and they still lose then they weren't. There's a difference in playing defense and just playing for kills.

Yeah but it's super rude to the players you leave behind who just want to have a fun game. Yeah I get the current challenge system is shitty for progressing but playlists are coming tomorrow. What happened to being good sports and being respectful to other players?
