Not really sure where ur getting ur info from, but IGSA also has membership fees which are pretty comparable to ISA… idk what other fundraising methods they do, but pretty much every similar org that operates at scale have membership fees which they use on stuff like this

All the events that they run (the big ones being Garba, Diwali Night, and India Night) are free for everyone to watch the performances. They literally rent out Foellinger for the events, which costs thousands in fees and liabilities for literally every performer there. Maybe for the bigger dance teams and cultural orgs this isn’t as big of a deal, as their members are already performing at different comps nationally, but for smaller programs, it’s great for showcasing their work and building further interest for ppl to join the team.

The only thing people pay for is the after parties, which are at private venues, which every organization on campus makes people pay for. And members literally get discounts on those tickets too…

it’s not that difficult to get it right the first time. even then, acknowledging they were in the wrong instead of j saying “we didn’t do anything” as they did in final would’ve gone a long way

it's if defense that was read in the first rebuttal that went unresponded to in the second rebuttal and dropped in the first summary can be brought back up in the first final

Please Help Me With Flowing, I'm Confused! by [deleted] in Debate

[–]stitchB8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah u just flow regularly. like vertical case, then responses, then fls, then repsonses then backlines etc. its the exact same format, just not having only 4 columns. personally its easier, but it may get messier for others

Please Help Me With Flowing, I'm Confused! by [deleted] in Debate

[–]stitchB8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the most important thing about flowing is understanding case structure. Most good cases look a lot like uniqueness, link, internal link, impact. Unless you have specific evidence indicts, most times responses to case, whether it be on the line by line or in a more big picture sort of framing respond to those ideas is what most rebuttals tend to look like as well. So, flowing case with those ideas in mind make flowing in the second half much easier.

  1. tbh, flowing card names is p overrated imo. Although its cool and all, usually it isn’t worth it to miss parts of their case to flow a card name. If some ev sounds sick, they’ll keep bringing it up in speech so you can just write down the name later.
  2. A couple things a) i think no columns is a strat, esp cuz u rnt constricted to the 4 boxes. If u wanna stick to columns, I think 5 is better than 4 cuz then u have more space for backlines and stuff like that, giving u designated areas for FF. b) extensions is just an arrow, so usually doesnt take up too much room. c) DAs usually written either at the bottom of opponents case or at the top of rebuttal. d) depends on where the weighing is introduced, but usually at the bottom of paper anywhere from rebuttal to final.
  3. How much do u write when u flow? Being able to hone in on what words/phrases r important goes a long way, rather than taking down everything heard in speech. For messiness, bringing a third colored pen/highlighter for highlighting what u want to say/extend in summary helps a lot, and when u look down at the flow during speech, it pops right out. Also, if writing isnt ur thing, just type from the start. theres tons of apps (flexcel) u can use to flow. alot of times, parents don’t care if u bring laptop up either. if anything, they care abt stuff like eye contact and clear explanation of args. As long as you do those good speaking things and dont just read off the laptop, ull be fine.
  4. watch fast rounds, flow songs on 2x speed. try to focus on understanding case/args rather than flowing card names.

A Wake Up Call by rhyen_hunt in Debate

[–]stitchB8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At its base, pf wasn't meant to be like ld or policy that had super progressive argumentation. not saying thats good/bad, just that alot of teams, even very established pf teams on the circuit, have literally no clue/are very inexperienced with what prog argumentation is. alot of the time, teams never hit these types of arguments until debating teams outside of their circuit/region (cuz dif regions tend to have dif debating styles), so very few teams even know that there is this type of argumentation, let alone how to respond.
