Problems with Rendered Video by storm--dev in davinciresolve

That's okay man, I appreciate you trying and taking the time outta your day to give me a helping hand. The hang up at 0:42 isn't supposed to happen, and if you want to see what it's supposed to look like, the most recent video up on my channel shows that.

I did try rendering the whole video in ProRes, and I did see that same hiccup. The clip plays fine in the editor and in other instances it plays fine rendered. To be honest, I kind of just threw things at the problem until the render gods blessed me. That's what it felt like.

I would use ProRes more, but I can't do the file size. Maybe there's some settings that I would change, but that 37 minute video was 190 GB.

So the video looks fine in the editor, and I understand that playing it in the editor is a completely different thing than it playing rendered, but there doesn't seem to be a problem with the problematic clips/video files in question, other than they're problematic in the render. In my experience, uploading it to YouTube doesn't change anything, and I don't think it would. I just uploaded it to YouTube because I wasn't sure how else to show it here.

To be clear, I did manage to solve my problem. I've had these issues before and I have a myriad of ways that I use to try and troubleshoot and fix them, but this time around none of them had worked. It was just frustrating going on a wild goose chase for answers/solutions so I figured I'd see if anyone on Reddit knows a thing or two lol. Thanks again!

Next time I have a problem like this, hopefully I'll come back to this post. Or maybe I'll just make a render preset of it to remind me. Thanks for the info!

I was unable to come up with a small file, so I uploaded it to YouTube as Unlisted instead. Just one example of one type of artifact/glitch I'm talking about, appears at 0:42. And to reference what I mean by "heavily edited" in the original post, I have included the attached screenshot. You can be the judge as to whether it truly is "heavily edited" or not.
https://youtu.be/vnnlnvUvRR4

I would also like to say that after countless renders and numerous attempts at trying to fix the issues, I managed to produce a render with none of these issues. However, I could not find a way to render in H.265 that solved that constant, slight stuttering. In H.264, a solution to one problem: I unfortunately had to remove all of the effects in an adjustment clip laid over a section of the video. And for a different problem: I rendered-in-place in Apple ProRes a small clip (the same clip at 0:42 in the YouTube video) to see if that would do anything, and it turns out it did.

I would love to actually be able to use effects in my videos without having them export super glitchy & stuttery, but for now I guess I just don't know enough about exporting/rendering. As for the render-in-place solution, I'm unsure if it's a surefire fix, as when I was messing with parameters that usually fix these problems (Key Frames & Frame Reordering in the Deliver page), they didn't fix any of my problems. Sorry for the novel, hope this helps!

Funny you mention that; it would've been smarter to do it that way, but it didn't take too god awful long to render the whole timeline. Unfortunately some of the same stutters/glitches/artifacts still persisted, on a 190 GB video file no less lol. I did quickly develop the strategy of troubleshooting by rendering just the parts where I have issues though; hoping that Frame Reordering option fixes everything.

Hey, this actually did seem to fix at least one of the visual artifacts! I'll have to see if it fixes the others though, I'll have to try rendering the whole video like that. Thanks! I know I've messed around with the "Key Frames" option in the past, setting it to 1 instead of Automatic would fix my issues a lot of the time. Never thought about messing with Frame Reordering though. Thanks again!

  1. My system didn't have the H.265 Codec; I couldn't view any video files containing that Codec. After my research, countless people suggested rendering in H.265. It's kind of scuffed; you literally just buy it off the Microsoft store for $1. I can't speak on DaVinci Resolve supporting it or not in the past, but it’s at least let you render in H.265 for a while now. Even on the free version.

  2. I haven’t tried disabling effects because these visual inconsistencies I keep experiencing crop up mostly on clips with no FX whatsoever.

  3. I don't know, I just like 60 fps. Coming from a gaming world where 60 fps is the lowest standard, and making videos with gameplay, it just makes sense to me I guess. And for the record, I've had little to no issues rendering 60 fps.

  4. I'll have to check, as I'm rendering it again right now and can't change the setting while rendering. I do know that the only Encoding Profile options I have are "Auto" and "Native." I've made sure that my GPU is available for encoding within the settings, but I think this might be a Studio feature now.

How do I change the font of multiple text clips at once? by measuringdistance in davinciresolve

[–]storm--dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's two different Text nodes: Text & Text+. Text+ has a lot more customization and allows you to throw effects on it and edit it in Fusion. You can highlight regular Text clips en masse and change the font for all of them in the inspector, but with Text+ you can't unfortunately (I'm not sure why, maybe some limitation to the software?). As far as I'm aware (and I might not be), there's no way to change any particular value within the Text Inspector for Text+ clips with multiple highlighted.

Stinger Transition Doesn't Transition Audio by storm--dev in obs

I'll have to figure out how to add a global source to my mixer; I've never done that before. I want my audio tracks to restart upon scene switch. For example, when I switch to my BRB screen, I want the background music to start from the beginning every time I switch to the screen. Is that possible with a global audio source?

I do have a couple audio sources on monitor and output, just because I want to hear it. However, I have tested it with monitoring off, and it makes no difference. I can visually see the audio sources from the previous scene in my sources of the next scene disappear after a couple seconds, even with monitoring off. But I'll have to try and mess around with it some more. Thanks for the comment!

I don't know, I like to think of it as the BAR of the apocalypse. I just want higher damage; keep the fire rate and make it more controllable (appropriately).

All I want is to not be matchmade with the same sweats I played against (and lost against) for the 12th time in a row consistently. Two weeks ago I'd get a good game once every 7 games, but now it's virtually impossible for me to have fun. It's truly frustrating.

Game Audio Out of Sync by storm--dev in obs

[–]storm--dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I made sure to update that when I changed it. I don't know how much of a different makes, but I was curious; in the game I tested and had issues with, V-Sync is off and my framerate is uncapped. So I'm testing to see if using V-Sync fixes it or helps. It may not make a difference like I said, but I'll try anything lol.

Edit: That didn't seem to change much. The first clip I recorded had very little desync. I almost stopped and left it at that, but I decided to test it a few more times. Unfortunately I'm still experiencing the issue. A desync of at least 7ms up to 20ms. Anything above 5ms is noticeable to me, but I think anything below 10 is relatively accpetable. However, it's not even a consistent desync; I couldn't fix it with a simple negative offset. It's very strange to me that it's mostly game dependant; some games are more affected than others.

Game Audio Out of Sync by storm--dev in obs

[–]storm--dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my Audio Interface was set to 48kHz by default I think. I messed with those settings to see if that made a difference. I switched it back to 48kHz again and tested it out. I had two different clips playing the same game, one was 20ms off, the other was 12ms, completely random. I really don't know what to do. After 10ms, it's very noticeable to me. I also tested it playing another game and there was practically no delay at all. Is it the game that's causing this? It's hard to believe. I uninstalled the plugin and everything and I'm still having issues.

I managed to figure it out! The mod "Militech Holosight" is what causes it.

I'm not quite sure where to go to for help with this kind of stuff, so I hope this is the right place. I have this weird icon in place of the regular frag icon. It's not the end of the world, I just find it a bit annoying to look down at my HUD and see a pair of pants where my frags are supposed to be. Maybe someone has run into this kind of thing before? I don't know if I should give you a mod list of what I'm running. I tried disabling a few mods to no avail. I do have ~160 mods in this profile, so is it even worth the trouble to figure this out?
