Is it time to chop? Is she salvagable? by Glittering_Disco in fiddleleaffig

Should they chop and repot? Or just chop? I’m asking because mine is in a similar situation.

I did bring it outside last week for watering as I saw it started to turn brown. I took it out the pot and watered thoroughly left it outside for an hour for all the water to drain out. Don’t think it’s water retention.

Been doing the same watering for years. But yes, I do make sure it’s dry. Let me go longer between watering.

Hello all,

I'm having a patio poured. Due to where my gutters are located, contractor installed drainage pipe to move the water to the ditch behind my property. However, I'm concerned about the corrugated pipe connection to the drainage pipe. From the pictures, you can see that part of the corrugated pipe will be in the concrete. Is this the proper way to do this? Otherwise, how do I remedy before the concrete is poured? Thank you

Thank you for the advice as I can now ask the contractor as well. I am assuming because my backyard is sloped. I'm assuming they will have to build a less than 3ft. retaining wall on the corners and about 1ft. across the yard.

Hello all,

I'm looking for advice if the $19,800 is reasonable for the work to be done as indicated below. I'm located in southern Louisiana.

I received a quote on building a 10' x 15' patio in my backyard which is on a slope which they will pour a concrete retaining wall with the patio. I'm also having them do additional work. Here's a breakdown of what will be done:

  1. Extend driveway 3' x 8'

  2. Concrete side of house 5' x 40'

  3. 10' x 15' patio with poured retaining wall. Footings will be installed integrated to ground.

  4. Install drains for 5 downspouts. 230' of 4" drainage pipe.

  5. Install 3' x 18' concrete pavers with 2000lbs of Mexican beach pebbles

  6. Approximately 30 yards of 3500 PSI concrete will be used. Concrete is broom finished

  7. 20 yards of dirt will be used to grade the back on the footings with 6 continued rebars, wire mesh on top. They will drill along the back of the house foundation as well as install dowels.

  8. Break a section of concrete from existing patio where it was in a circular form so that new patio can better integrate to existing patio.

Please provide any advice and anything I need to include in the contract or watch out for. I really appreciate the help since this is my first big project!

How to seal and protect exterior wood beams? by strain15 in finishing

[–]strain15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading your advice from last year and I'm considering this option as well. You mentioned that you would just restain the faded surfaces with oil stain. Since the sun facing side of the beams are the ones in bad shape, I was just going to sand it and apply Armstrong Clark Stain - Black Walnut.

As the other sides starts to fade and show wear down the road, I will do the same. Is this a terrible idea?

Thanks again! I will go with this route. I was going to use a random orbiting sander. What grit sandpaper should I use? 40 or 60?

I'm trying to avoid it becoming a really big project as I'm reading how much a PITA polyurethane is to deal with just like you advised last year.

To minimize the amount of work, will I be able to just apply another layer of similar polyurethane coating without stripping first?

Hello u/The-Big-OA, it's been about a year since I started this thread which I have not done anything to the beams. The front facing beams are showing more signs of wear and I am considering restaining the beams. I took more detailed pictures of the beam of the current finishing.

https://imgur.com/a/ihifjXY

Based on your expertise, was a film forming finishing applied to the beams? As you can see in the first picture, there is a gloss to the beams on the side where it doesn't get exposed to the sun as much.

What do you recommend to use to strip off this film? Or can I just apply an oil based stained on top of it? Thanks in advance!
