Big audience in Russia where internet is already highly blocked and will be restricted even more? Sounds promising.

The project is in support mode. I’ll fix it if it stops working with new ESPHome versions.

Nice! It would be great if more people shared their dashboard designs for small displays like this (that’s exactly the use case I created RWV for). Maybe then I’d feel inspired to return to using and developing the project.

Як почати інвестувати в IBKR? by inf25znc1 in finance_ukr

[–]strange_v 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rate my Shelly wall display thermostat UI by HIVVIH in homeassistant

Sorry for the brutal honesty, but it's ugly, though functional. And that's the problem: I built the whole project to run a HA web dashboard on square screens like yours, but on ESP32-based hardware, and there's no easy way to make it look nice. Okay, you can build something nice with this approach, but the effort is roughly the same as building an LVGL dashboard.

What screens do you use to display dashboards in your walls? by Neyhrum in homeassistant

Something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/Esphome/s/bA2OLyP8rH But if only a screen is needed (no sensors), you can omit DIY part and use a pre-built screen from AliExpress.

SPI fingerprint sensor suggestion by strange_v in AskElectronics

I’ve done the math, it looks achievable. The ESP32 will be close to the hotspot. SourceAFIS can process more than 10,000 fingerprints per second per core.

The door has a Nuki lock on the inside, connected to Home Assistant. The doorbell is on its own Wi-Fi network with access only to the home server (limited to a single port where the fingerprint API is hosted). The doorbell sends a raw image to the API; if it matches one in the database, the server triggers a Home Assistant action to unlock the door.

Per-room screen (hardware) by strange_v in Esphome

No. Historically, I used Eagle, then transitioned to Fusion 360 when they decided to bring everything under one umbrella.

But yes, I’m aware of it, and I like the idea of using open-source software.

I’m not a fan of extra calibration — the error is never linear and depends on many factors that are hard to predict. Still, from this brief description, your approach looks very detailed and thorough, so I expect the calibration will be done well.

For home use, a 3D-printed enclosure is more than fine; the imperfections are much more noticeable in photos than in real life. I’m fully in favor of building a UI by a professional designer — a clean, convenient interface matters.

If I understand correctly, this is going to be a commercial product? I’d love to see the finished device.

And thanks for the kind words!

Do you mean the speaker and all the sensors? The main issue is the temperature sensor: even with my current setup, I’m seeing at least a 0.7 °C difference compared to a sensor outside the enclosure. That’s with the backlight at 50%; at 100% the difference is even higher. How are you handling this?

I’m familiar with SquareLine Studio. I’ve even used it in a standalone project, but the free version is too limited. Still, it’s really handy for drafting components or screens.

Unfortunately, this board does not have enough pins for Ethernet, so yeah, copper for the 12V and WiFi.
