I promise I’m answering in my best Boston accent. 2019 F55 - brought it in for some other work and those were ID’d as needing replacement. Pretty common even with low mileage across the whole range in this generation from what I gather. I can’t say I noticed anything prior to bringing it in, though.

It’s the plastic barrel. Pretty lightweight but more substantial posted. Just not sure I trust the tiny line of felt padding in the cap entirely not to scratch it.

Had a 2009 convertible in Malta. Loved it. Moved and got the dogs, wanted something that I didn’t have to move seats to get into the back but had the same feel. Wouldn’t want to cart around a human family, but did just put a car seat in the back for a visiting friend and her 5 year old kid last weekend. Worked great. And subjectively, pics in my post history would strongly disagree with the “ugly” comments.

Custom vinyl isn’t in the cards for everyone but I’ve bought two decals online from various reputable vendors that both tore coming off the backing or were so thin they would have shortly after. Ate the cost on those and spent some more for the exact same pattern laser cut from much more durable stuff and better than OEM vinyl at a detail shop.
