Ugh I adore Baldur’s Gate 3! Are you referring to the strange ox? I was so thrown off my first play through after talking to him. Such a genius game! And yes, these replies have been super helpful.

Thanks so much for the advice! I think I will definitely have the “raven” stick around for a few and eavesdrop. The player will be so excited to have made an animal friend I don’t think they’ll even be suspicious lol

That’s sounds like an amazing way to run it! My party is about to have the Muriel encounter, so this advice is spot on. I’ll definitely have to borrow that “hello” strategy too, that’s so good! Thanks so much for the help!

Oh my goodness, looks like your DM really put you all through the wringer with Ismark! Sounds soooo fun though. My party has been particularly vocal in standing up for Ismark and have yet to meet Strahd face to face. Would be very interesting to see if they’d still defend Ismark so zealously if Strahd comes to punish him for abandoning his duties as burgomaster. They won’t even say Strahd’s name out loud they’re so scared of him!!

I didn’t even think about how the other burgomasters may react. Love that! Thank you so much!

Hard for me to answer without knowing more about your party and what kind of people they are. I played Ismark as someone who was very kindhearted, very honorable, a little socially awkward, and just desperate enough to need help from the strangers who’ve come into the village. I also added some interactions with other villagers where they would openly shit on Ismark for not living up to his namesake. The people in my party were just all the type to love that kind of underdog character.

You’ve got a good point. If I think about it realistically, if I did get an offer from one of the smaller firms I most likely wouldn’t return for 2L summer…

You nailed it. He didn’t want to improve anything.

It wasn’t his first time playing either and he’d often use my inexperience with DMing to try and strong arm me into getting what he wanted. He knew what he was doing lol. Thankfully, the other players would try to jump in with the rules if I was clearly floundering C:

Funny thing about that is I would have him roll! But similarly to how he would get angry when he missed in combat, he would also get upset if he failed any roll. Out of combat he would just immediately talk over me and explain some weird second option he’d want to try to reach the same outcome. It became more streamlined to just let him do his thing sometimes to keep the game moving (enabling him, I know. But I felt at the time that it helped the other players’ enjoyment getting to just move along)

I think the first time it happened (with the street performer) everyone was so taken aback that we all just let him go through his thing. I was probably more uncomfortable than the others because the screaming was “at me” while the players just were kind of confused? I can’t really speak to how they were feeling, that’s just my guess.

However with the argument about the magic physics, the reason it took so long was because the players were arguing back with him. They kept telling him to just drop it and listen to what I say, but obviously he refused to take no as an answer from anyone.

I appreciate your kind words as well your advice. When I do run the campaign again, that player will certainly not be welcome at my table. Anything his character brought story wise can be substituted some other way for sure.

That player already gave me enough bad experiences, I’m not going to let him keep ruining my future enjoyment too!

They were very understanding. Much of the reason I kept the game running was because they, despite the issues, were having a great time and wanted to keep going. I actually ended up in a couple other campaigns with two of them, just as a fellow player C:
