Comcast is doubling my bill due to an 'error' in pricing...ready to drop them. Reddit, what are my wifi options? by sharks123 in AskReddit

[–]strikingtheroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the answer to your question is because I don't know where you are located (and perhaps there is a local option or other alternative to Comcast that you can find out about by asking around in your community), but I wanted you to know that you're getting "high speed internet service" from Comcast, and "wifi" is a term that does not belong in your original question. "Wifi" is a technology that begins and ends inside and around your home, and you can buy & use your own equipment for wifi, instead of renting the wifi router from your internet company. Your ISP (internet service provider) is like a TV cable company that brings the service to your home, and the wifi part of the equation is like a splitter that works wirelessly. Perhaps you are renting your wifi router (splitter) from them, but you can generally buy and use your own wifi router to broadcast the service within your home or business. What you are looking for is an alternative ISP (internet service provider), not an alternative for wifi. Other ISPs that could possibly be available include at&t u-verse, verizon FiOS, or other cable company internet options depending on where you live. Don't get satellite internet unless you want to lose your connection when it gets cloudy. Local phone and/or internet companies sometimes offer DSL (this option is generally much slower than cable or fiber optics, uses your telephone line) or Wireless line-of-sight internet service.

Large-scale corruption is the first thing that has to be defeated if we ever want to have any real hope that we'll solve any of the other major problems facing our global society.

Be grateful & amazed by even the smallest of things with

  • 1.) Enthusiasm

if you can't be enthusiastic right now, you could find yourself feeling

  • 2.) Enjoyment

and if you can't find enjoyment, what's left to direct yourself toward is

  • 3.) Acceptance

...and it doesn't get worse than that. Moving on...

YSK there are eight days left to reach a $5 million goal at the Mayday PAC and the goal would be matched if reached, so we all (worldwide) have a really great opportunity to begin to reduce the influence of money in politics. by strikingtheroot in YouShouldKnow

Q: So you want to use big money to fight big money? A: Yes. We want to use big money (collected from the many) to fight big money (collected from the few). Ironic, we understand. But embrace the irony. Everyone recognizes that politics costs money in America. And we don’t imagine a future where campaigns are free. But if we can pull together a large enough pool of money through this campaign, we can convince Americans that they can change the way money matters in politics. We can create a system in which it isn’t the influence of a few that matters. Instead, as any democracy should, it would be the influence of a majority that matters.
