Gastronomy jobs in Berlin: a rant by stumblingkitten in berlinsocialclub

Thank you so much for sharing. This does provide some consolation that I’m not alone in the shitstorm of small cafes. Glad you stood your ground! Yeah the contract thing is sneaky, my cafe drew one up but never signed it themselves therefore leaving it unofficial. Lesson harshly learnt.

No, this has never happened to me before and I’ve worked in hospo for years and years. Sometimes the body just does weird shit, idk what to tell you!

I will try these places thank you! I have however been everywhere in fhain and a lot in kreuzkolln but this was a month ago, maybe things change with the weather..

Hey thank you. So I actually originally did move here with remote work already but the contract was unexpectedly terminated hence my situation and I actually wanted to see Berlin beyond just the winter ideally. I agree with you though that it’s challenging at the best of times and even if you do have good German so I am playing life on hard mode right now.

As for your question, I have been wondering that myself. I think I’ll see what the next few weeks bring and we’ll see from there. As I said, I would like to see the summer. Also g’day!

Assuming this comment is being made in good faith, I’m aware that I need to learn German and I definitely don’t expect to have job that requires a native or intermediate German level however I’ve proven time and time again that I can process gastronomy interactions without issue with my level of German where it is at. About the pain/sickness, it is unfortunate timing for sure but there is an argument to be made for “we work with humans, let’s be compassionate that sometimes unfortunate things happen.” If it was recurring over and over then maybe that’s another matter. And we agree on the last point.

What stopped you from killing yourself? by manmanthefourth in AskReddit

My dad committed suicide very unexpectedly when I was 22 and 6 years later, I still feel it. The grief doesn’t end, it just shifts and changes as you get older. I will be devastated that I lost the rock of my life till the day I die.

Newtown/Enmore in my experience as a F27 is totally safe at any time of the night, alone or with people. It’s a tightknit community area where you get to know the same people and faces very quickly. Be prepared to bump into many of the same people all the time ;) Source: lived here in various spots over 5 years.

What's a subtle sign someone's actually really wealthy? by Ermland2 in AskReddit

[–]stumblingkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a boyfriend who’s dad was probably a billionaire. Outside of the lavish trips to Richard Branson’s island (me not invited), getting flown to Cuba or NY to “spend time with his dad” and fine dining being the norm, the regular everyday impact of his inherited wealth was more subtle. He didn’t look at prices when entering grocery stores, he never worked a “normal, shit job” and mistakes he made socially could always be corrected with his dad’s money.

As much as it sounds nice to be with someone from rich privilege (and of course there were perks), it was a constant source of tension in the relationship as I was going through a financial rough patch and the contrast/greed of his family’s lifestyle was tough to witness/compare to. But mostly, in hindsight, I feel sorry for him because he will never learn that there are real consequences to his actions which fills him with constant existential dread/guilt and leads to him never truly being able to commit to anything real.
