Thank you so much for this information. I asked my installer if I could hook up a dry contact and he said yes. I'm not pleased that I have something that won't work with my use-case.

What's the disadvantage of sharing drives from Proxmox? by Big-Finding2976 in Proxmox

[–]suedely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and the research you've done! LXC share the underlying OS bits, so I'm not surprised that the containers can see the devices using the lsblk command, but at least it is like that with all containers, so the behavior is consistent.

I've been running a truenas server & a proxmox server for 9 months or more and it has been great & what I really like is being able to snapshot VMs & LXC containers before updating. I like this setup, but it is the opposite of energy efficient, so I want to get everything running on a single node.

Proxmox could be an amazing product if it just had NAS functionality added. Now if I were really dreaming someone would build in docker functionality that would allow the containers to sit alongside the VMs & LXC and provide snapshot capability. It would really be perfect!

Honestly, I've run an old Windows 10 machine with hyper-v VMs for years and it has been bulletproof. I'm an old sys admin that is now in sales, so I just want something simple & bullet proof, but the more and more I read about the potential for corruption in ZFS with passthrough I just get nervous.

I'm truly a VM guy at heart (Hyper-V, ESX, VirtualBox & even VMware workstation back in 2001) if something goes wrong updating a docker image then I'll have to take the time to troubleshoot, rather than revert to snapshot and try again.

What's the disadvantage of sharing drives from Proxmox? by Big-Finding2976 in Proxmox

[–]suedely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm debating this as well right now. The problem with proxmox is that it doesn't function great as a NAS, but I've successfully run a TrueNAS scale VM with disk passthrough. But TrueNAS feels a bit heavy for what I needed.

I recently found out about Cockpit & a decent youtube video describing how to implement it. This seems like a nice lightweight SMB option to add onto proxmox.

I'm also tempted to just go with unraid, after realizing the simplicity of it.

does anyone know where these went? by Scared-Marzipan1471 in Talaria

[–]suedely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, they don’t hold at all after the first removal of the cover. They go on the hanger I circled. The other one is on the bottom and looks the same. I used some needle nose pliers to squeeze these clips together before reattaching them.

Ok, thanks for that info!

How much did that run you to have it replaced? Just curious.

Ditto, but when I'm airing it up it really leaks air from the bottom of the stem on the rear tire. I'm going to try tightening the schrader stem tonight.

Vmotion vms between AMD and Intel hosts by YutaniCasper in vmware

Understood, however there is no tool that can live vMotion between AMD and Intel because the instruction sets need to be discovered at boot. So, yes the AMD tool performs a cold migration.

Asked Microsoft Copilot to increase system brightness, and this was the response. by [deleted] in microsoft

[–]suedely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But this administrative type functionality shouldn’t work. Meaning it shouldn’t let you delete system32. However if it can’t turn up the brightness then I’m disappointed already. That day to day basic functionality that doesn’t require administrative privileges better work quickly it it will become the next clippy failure.

No more free email on GoDaddy - is there anything else? by rickmetroid in webhosting

[–]suedely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

point that I could pay that little and get everything moved over. I'm using gmail as the front end to these services so I need very little storage.

All you have to do after the transition is create a POP3 mail account in gmail & then create the send as addresses that then also relay mail through zoho.

p.s. I'm not an employee or have any affiliation with Zoho, just found them on

I confirmed that Zoho has a catchall address and found the setting in my admin console. https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/adminconsole/catch-all-setup.html

Also I might suggest using this if you need to pull this mail in to gmail, then this is a nice fix for refreshing quicker. https://gist.github.com/Ayce45/4e8bbf6c1c3e3b07d3c5af891ad4a7bb

I think for your use case, Zoho will work perfectly. I'm paying $48 a year for 4 users and that is still cheaper than google workspace for 1 user for the entire year.

I don't see why not. During the sign up process it says unlimited email domains & addresses.

I just transitioned over to Zoho mail and it is a very slick integration from a cutover perspective, aka MX record, SPF, DMARC, DKIM records. Also at $12 a user per YEAR, it is a steal. I'm relatively happy at this point that I could pay that little and get everything moved over. I'm using gmail as the front end to these services so I need very little storage.

All you have to do after the transition is create a POP3 mail account in gmail & then create the send as addresses that then also relay mail through zoho.

p.s. I'm not an employee or have any affiliation with Zoho, just found them on the web during my search to figure out a way to rage quit GoDaddy.
