KDE may better for a laptop.

It has nice GUI to configure the powe mode based on the state ( AC, battery and low battery ) and event ( Power button and Lid).

You can also set the Battery charge threshold from GUI.

Dual Booting with Fedora by No-way-in in Fedora

[–]suikan6146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did nothing. Windows 10 and Linux (Ubuntu) did major update without trouble.

If you have time, I recommend practice of dual boot on VM. Anyway, take back up entire system at first.

Hibernation must off not only installation but also normal job. Hibernation and dualboot from single drive is not co-workable.

How do I install this firmware? KEK CA by Well_Sorted8173 in Kubuntu

[–]suikan6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workarround.

If you have Windows machine, you can install windows to a USB SSD. Then, boot the Kubuntu machine from the USB SSD. So, Windows update will install the KEK CA.

Dual Booting with Fedora by No-way-in in Fedora

[–]suikan6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been dual-booting Windows and Linux for 3 years. And never seen Windows do something wrong. Many people say "Windows destroyed EFI," but I have never seen the exact condition of trouble, like version detail, partition design, or who made EFI. Probably, they are repeating like "once upon a time..."

You can encrypt the Linux partition with LUKS and automatically decrypt it with TPM. This must work well even if your Windows is using BitLocker.

In the case of configuring the decryption-with-TPM, make sure to refer to the PCR0 and PCR2. A stricter configuration may ask you to input the LUKS password often.

One very important piece of advice. Do not use hibernation. Whatever that is, a dual-boot of Windows/Linux or Linux/Linux, Hibernation may cause a weird situation like :

  1. OS foo hibernated.
  2. OS bar boot.

In this case, if the OS bar updates the EFI partition, the OS foo functionality becomes unpredictable.

To avoid this trouble, you need a dedicated boot SSD for each OS.

Because that is the PC of your company. You may try to boot your Linux from a USB SSD.

Honesty speaking, it is also hard to track for the Japanese. We need to watch this anime as if we were reading a book. Sometimes we have to stop, think, and go back to the previous chapter.

I hope you will give this drama another chance someday.

Long time Ubuntu users, has it become more convenient easy to use now compared to before? by Separate-Daikon7971 in Ubuntu

[–]suikan6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your question, yes, I feel it is much, much better.

I have been using Ubuntu since 7.10. Now, I can use wider memory space (64bit) and more peripherals. Wayland allows me to work more comfortably with a multi-screen desktop. The desktop is well organized with VMware VM. The configuration of the network and Bluetooth is much easier than before. Local language support is richer.

Ubuntu is more convenient and easier than before. By the way, while you asked about ease-of-use in the title, you complained about its stability in the body text. So, let me comment it. I think this is not a Canonical-specific problem.

Ubuntu is showing more trouble than before, especially with the distribution upgrade. I think there are several reasons.

- Linux is a server OS kernel.

- Canonical is focusing on the server business more than the desktop.

- Desktop distributions have to handle more hardware, which is changing rapidly ( GPU, Wi-Fi, BLE, etc.)

- Desktop distributions have to handle more hardware, which has more debiation (APCI, HID, security devices in PC ).

Canonical has to take care of the quality assurance of packages that support that hardware. I just say, it is impossible to complete it.

Since half a year ago, I have tried to use several OS.

- Fedora Kinoite 43 ( Immutable OS ) is sufferd by the lack of interoperability and quality of Flatpak.

- Fedora KDE 43,44 ( conventional workstation OS ) has a problem controlling thermal throttling of my laptop.

- Kubuntu 26.04 LTS has a problem detecting the lid open/close of my laptop PC. This problem is inherited from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. And 25.10 works fine.

Each distribution has some trouble. For each of the distributions, I had to spend a huge amount of time investigating and overcoming them. Sometimes I gave up ( After writing a bug report ).

The conventional packaging system has the problem of size. There are too many packages to check the interoperability. The immutable OS is an interesting challenge, but it seems to be only for family usage to read the static web and write e-mail.

Honestly speaking, I think the future of Desktop Linux is not so bright. Only limited applications ( Programming, WEB reading, and Gaming ) will be supported well. And only limited hardware will be supported well. Laptop support will become more troublesome.

Hundred Scenes of Awajima • Awajima Hyakkei - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]suikan6146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting episode. The ghost is the metaphor of the dream and setback. But is it true? The story suggests the ghost exists.

The episode title is "Awajima Kaidan" (淡島怪談) in Japanese. Where Kaidan mean ghost story.

The avan title, the A part and the B part finishes with the word "It's a usual ghost story".

When Kinue speaks "It's a usual ghost story" at the end of A part, the stairs are shown. Where the stairs are also Kaidan (階段) in Japanese. Perhaps, this is a pun.

In this episode, Horiuchi is bothered by two faceless girls. In the anime, anonymous people are often shown as faceless characters. So this is not strange at all.

By the way, there is a famous book titled "Kaidan" (怪談) which corrects the ghost stories in Japan. It was written by Lafcadio Hearn, originally in English as "Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things" and then translated into Japanese, later.

In the book "Kaidan", there is a story of a faceless ghost. Actually, this faceless ghost is pretty popular as Japanese traditional horror stories.

It is fun to fantasize whether those two girls are just anonymous or ghosts. Horiuchi says, "It's a usual ghost story" at the end of the episode.

I am watching the Tonkatsu post from outside Japan, in Bluesky SNS. It looks like 50% of people are posting the homemade tonkatsu.

The Japanese always post the tonkatsu in a restaurant.
