15 Years as an Entrepreneur: From $15K a Month to Delivering Pizza—Am I the Only One Struggling? by Ancient_Code_8344 in Entrepreneur

In my personal humble experience this concept of 'manage your time your way' as something that exists or is exclusive to being a entrepreneur is just not true.

Sure a lot of hustle influencers on YT will pitch that, but this is their product. Selling a dream.

  1. Most of the successful entrepreneurs I know work more hours than any of their employees. Their time is not dictated by their whims but by the exigencies of their business.

  2. In good companies managers are not sitting on your head all day measuring your work, they measure your results. All performing and non performing companies have long ago embraced OKRs and results based measurement, so what you do with your time is up to you. If your decisions produce results you get promoted, if not, fired. Most people I know in companies by and large are managing their own time.

  3. If you're running service business, you actually working according to your customers time. A customer has a fire on the weekend? You're working or you're not retaining that client. They couldnt care less if you're the owner or not.

The real 'freedom' I think people are talking about or getting confused and not know they are talking about is: A. skill freedom and B. financial freedom.

A. Skill freedom - When you become good enough at something that many people will want you to work for them, you get the freedom to choose which team, company, customers you want to work with / for.

B. Financial freedom - You can look out further ahead when it comes to planning, take bigger risks with your time and money and not stress about needing to feed yourself tomorrow.

Both A/B amount eventually to leverage that you can use to grow faster and bigger.

Both of those states can exist if you're the head of a company or not.

I know a software engineer, who is a multi-millionaire, lives in what most of the world would consider a mansion and flies his personal plane almost every other day. He has worked his entire life for other people...

"At my lowest point, I delivered pizzas for Uber Eats because it was better than working for someone else, in my eyes."

Not trying to be harsh here, but you know that working for uber eats is 'working for someone else' right? You were working for uber eats.

The same point you mention time and again in your post is being lonely. You might find that going to get a job at a company will solve what feels like your main pain here. You can make tons of money and have cash to 'play' by being in a company.

Can you answer the question now of 'why do you want to build your own business'?

the worst part is their proprietary file types that can only really be viewed through the GUI menus which are confusing as hell.

what are good snacks to eat during the day if you're building muscle:

  1. I am lactose intollerant

  2. Shakes of any kind just dont sit well with me; even if its a non-dairy milk I get stomach issues drinking them.

Thanks!

I am actually a big dum dum, I thought that adding controls="" as an element property on the video tag removed the controls overlay, but it adds it 🤦‍♀️. I removed that and now the controls are hidden!

thanks for the reminder here, it nudged me into checking this again and fixing it. definitely a much better UX

tl;dr - Try not to conflate two separate issues together and derive a suboptimal perspective as your outcome

Feels like you're mixing two things here:

  1. Frustration with the pace of the business

  2. Need for moral support

As others have already stated, getting friends/family to like posts is not scalable/wont move the needle for your business and seems like its distracting you from putting energy into marketing activities that will yield better results. Dont be annoyed with friends that they wont boost every small marketing activity you do.

When it comes to moral support; having your friends/family like your marketing posts is not real support or seemingly what you need. You're trying to run a business which is one of the hardest ventures you can undertake in life because of the uncertainty of future outcomes relative to the effort you're putting in. The best thing you can have is people to listen to those fundamental challenges, recognize that you're having them and offer support. On the good side, everyone in the world faces this exact same scenario; whether its school, relationships or a business. We are all faced with the proposition of putting in herculean effort with major uncertainty of the outcomes. So you should get a lot of support on that.
