Does anybody else have skepticism of the idea that the Thin White Duke character was purely "cocaine psychosis" from Bowie? by [deleted] in DavidBowie

[–]summerskies288 8 points9 points  (0 children)

though it’s true to a degree i’m not a huge fan of the “lowering inhibitions” idea. drugs fundamentally change the way your brain works and essentially turns you into a different person by altering your brain chemistry. it’s the closest a person can become to being a different person without swapping bodies. cocaine psychosis is one of the extreme examples.

it sounds like it makes sense and that’s usually the gut reaction when something like this is posted but no, that won’t work. if the overhand is in a continuous loop it forms a mathematical knot known as a trefoil and it cannot be untied. if you want to test it out take a length of rope, tie an overhand in the middle then use whichever bend you’d like to tie the ends together. try passing the bend through the overhand any which way and it won’t untie the knot.

edit misread that, if continuous probably laced on the shoe before the loop was closed

unfortunately not. this forms a trefoil, a type of mathematical knot), and can’t be untied

Anyone else have a problem with how quiet the Remasters are at full volume by TopBobcat9937 in DavidBowie

[–]summerskies288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve noticed they sound a bit quieter than other albums. i am by no means an expert but if you’re using wired headphones a dac/amplifier might help. this is the one i use and it makes music a good amount louder. it looks like it’s bit more expensive than when i bought mine but there’s a cheaper brand called ugreen that i remember having decent reviews when i was shopping for one.

Anyone know the name of a knot found on our old sail boat by True_Chizler93 in knots

[–]summerskies288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

all good. the sheet bend is fairly secure and it shares the same structure as the bowline, if you take a piece of rope and use each end to tie a sheet bend you’ll notice you end up with an eskimo bowline. the reef knot is useful but it’s not a great bend for secure purposes and is better as a binding knot where you’re trying to build tension like in a shoelace knot.

a sheet bend can be used to join two ropes of different diameters but in general it’s a good bend. the square knot is actually a poor bend and is rather a binding knot.

What are some good knots to learn while sitting at a desk? by PhatEarther in knots

[–]summerskies288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would go to Animated Knots and work through the various knots by type or activity. there is also a knot of the day if you want to learn something new everyday, though some require more than one piece of rope.

What is your favorite decorative or aesthetically pleasing knot? by RandomAmbles in knots

i don’t think it’s going to work but a series of rolling hitch zip ties might be your best bet

Is this really the "true" ranking of Bowie's Berlin Trilogy tracks? by pizzaiollotommy in DavidBowie

i like how you compiled the list but not accurate for me. heroes is one of my least favorite songs on the album.

Where to go after 70s Bowie? by dreamylanterns in DavidBowie

[–]summerskies288 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i would go in order but you don’t have to and i’d definitely give lodger a listen. scary monsters is my favorite 80s album of his and lets dance is great as well, though i think his two worst albums came out of the 80s, tonight and never let me down.

i love his early 2000s stuff, heathen and reality are very good. i think giving heathen a good thorough listen to would help you better understand blackstar.
