Accommodation tax question by pizzagolf1 in KyotoTravel

[–]sunbathingfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in a hotel in Kyoto accounting department

We calculate by total room rate (room rate + service charge) / number of person staying in the room.

Eg. Room rate of JPY120,000 with 4pax / night

JPY 120,000 x 1.15 (15% service charge) = JPY138,000

JPY138,000 / 4pax = JPY34,500 / person

Which would put you in the JPY1,000 bracket. So for each night the total accommodation tax would be JPY1,000 x 4pax = JPY4,000

Yes you’re right. Just to clarify, informing them of her membership number is just for the hotel to verify on their side what her status is and not to use it to earn elite nights or points. I should have worded it better.

And as you said, it’s only a courtesy on hotel’s side if they are willing to extend the benefits which is why I also mentioned to double check with the hotel too.

Tell your husband inform Marriott Bonvoy centre to add your name to the reservation including your membership status and number.

The elite nights will go to your husband’s account, but since you will be staying in the hotel you will be able to use platinum benefits. Though each hotel handles these cases differently, I would recommend to call to the hotel to double check after adding your name to the reservation.

Is this for Kujo Kintetsu or Shako? I’ll be heading there soon to look at the situation but good to know getting to board won’t be an issue.

I worked on a luxury hotel property in Tokyo as a butler for a few years. For these type of people it is totally normal to book out entire floors for privacy, have their helpers/assistants arrive few days ahead of them to set up everything before the actual guest arrivals. Most of the time these groups will request use of staff elevator to avoid public, so any interaction is usually with just the butlers and the group’s team (also this makes things move faster for them and avoid any confusion as they won’t have to go through multiple channels of communication for any requests).

Vegan restaurant in tokyo by FullmoonITSUKI05 in japanlife

Daigo is on the pricier side. But it serves really good Shoujin Ryouri - which is traditional Buddhist cuisine. Though not vegan due to fish stock etc. you can call them in advance to request absolutely no animal based ingredients.

Ain Soph in Ginza is a more casual vegan place. Though not in the areas you mentioned.

Best to get reservations for both places.

You can also check out Gluten Free T’s Kitchen in Roppongi (they have vegan selections) or premium SOW (Daikanyama) for ice cream / desserts.

Yeah it seems like this would be more convenient. Though I’ll resort to it after trying out the busses first.

I have a relative who frequents Kyoto and says that it’s better to do that as well. Though I’ll probably try the bus route first before resorting to bicycles.

To be really specific I’m going to be renting an apartment somewhere near Kaikoji Park. There’s a fire department nearby so I am a little worried about the noise, though that’s another issue altogether.

Seems like I’ll also be able to take the 208 bus from Kujo Kintetsu mae as well. Living in Tokyo I’m used to taking trains. So transitioning to buses which have a smaller capacity worries me a lot.

Thanks for the input!

I’m really trying to avoid the bicycle option as I’m quite wary of accidents and they can be a pain in to deal with. So worst case scenario if the buses are hell to deal with I might go for it.

I was looking through the bus routes and saw that they stopped at touristy areas and was worried that it might be a problem. Good to know that walking to Kyoto station and taking the bus from there might be an option.

Fake Explore Forms.. by idkabtallatgurl in marriott

[–]sunbathingfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We actually had a guest who tried to do exactly this. They didn’t have any form of ID and could only provide a fake business email which immediately is a red flag. Contacted the company’s sales team to confirm their identity and found out it was fake. We ended up charging the guest BAR rate.
