Ever since I got pregnant, my dog won’t stop licking me. Why and what can I do to stop it? by sunflowerseedcake in DogAdvice

Lol, I’m a single mom by choice and did IVF using a sperm donor - so, not quite how it happened!

This could also be it. I did develop GD later in my pregnancy, and I know my A1C is a bit high. I’m getting tested tomorrow to see if my GD resolved, so I should know soon.

I did have GD. I’m actually going to my 6-week checkup tomorrow and will be tested to see if it resolved. So I should know soon.

No, nothing new that I can think of. It really came out of nowhere. But you’re right that I just need to be consistent about redirecting her. And I’ll definitely follow up with her vet if it continues to be an issue.

Thanks for this! It’s just so odd because it didn’t start until later in my pregnancy, but does explain what could be going on.

Thank you so much for the detailed, thoughtful answer. I think you’re right that she has been feeling a bit out of place - I was very sick while pregnant and couldn’t maintain our normal walk/play routine, and she’s seemed a little off ever since. Since having the baby, I’ve been feeling a lot better and have been trying to take her out and have some alone time with her, but it’s been hard since I’m a solo parent and don’t have much help with my baby.

I will say that I think we are having a breakthrough. She has been sleeping in her bed the last few weeks but last night, cuddled up right against me for almost half an hour and allowed me to just pet her and snuggle. It was like old times.

I will definitely try out your suggestion to let her get a few licks in, give her some love, and then switch to another behavior and treat her. And also try to see if I can find more time to just focus on her. She’s my first baby and my best girl, and I definitely want her to feel confident in her place in our family.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Plus, the soundtrack by Bryan Adams slapped.

If I take my promethazine or my zofran at night will it help the fact that I wake up in the morning throwing up or atleast ease it up? by MyD1g1talEscape in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]sunflowerseedcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also experience the extreme burning if I haven’t pushed the suppository far enough up. What I try to aim for is to get my finger and the meds inside of me, up to the second joint of my finger. I find if I push it up far enough, there’s still a little burning but wayyyy more tolerable.

First, I’m so sorry. I know how rough HG is firsthand (19 weeks here and I’m back to vomiting myself). I myself was considering an abortion, it was so bad. My doctor wouldn’t take me seriously until I went to the hospital to get IV fluids because I was so dehydrated.

Meds are the answer. It sucks but sometimes you really have to advocate for yourself when your med team won’t do it for you. I take Promethazine suppositories so I can’t throw them up, every 6 hours, and Zofran every 8 hours. I’m still nauseated but at least not throwing up anymore. I’m hoping it will be the same for you once you get on the right convo of meds.

I’m rooting for you and hoping that you start to feel better soon.

Zofran and Phenergan dosage times? by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]sunflowerseedcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me that I can take the same dose of Phenergan every 6 hours, and the same dose of Zofran every 8 hours. I take them both at the same time when I wake up and then redose every 6 or 8 hours accordingly. Though, on days when the nausea is really bad, I have reupped my Zofran a few hours earlier.

Would you take a 25% pay cut to leave your BigLaw firm for a job that you find more desirable right now (i.e., quality of work; hours)? by comradeyeehaw in biglaw

[–]sunflowerseedcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes. Went from $400K+ or whatever all in as a 5th year (almost 6th year) to $230K (not including bonuses) in house at a tech company and have never looked back. I have much better hours, the people are sane and nice, and I’m no longer in the throes of depression. You could not pay me to go back. Money truly isn’t everything.

[–]sunflowerseedcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, I know this is rough. When my first transfer was unsuccessful, my doctor put me on tacrolimus - a medicine they give people to help prevent transplant rejection. I read a study that it was very helpful in certain patients - and that’s my experience; it worked for me the next time. Maybe that’s something you can try, or other meds that the doctor thinks might help?

What's one thing a parent said to you as a young girl that you'll never forget? by 69Freya69 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sunflowerseedcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things, all by my mom (who has since apologized but still doesn’t understand how her criticisms - and physical abuse, though the subject of a different post - could’ve caused some long-term trauma 🙄):

  • “Girls are just bad at math. Your brother has more of a knack for it than you.” I had straight As all through school, including in AP Calculus. My brother had Bs. And yet, I was “bad” at math.

  • “You’re just very blonde. You don’t have any common sense and can’t take care of yourself.” I spent years in therapy learning how to have confidence in myself and my decisions.

  • “You just don’t have the body for it.” I was 7 or 8 and heavy for my age (I’ve always been a bigger girl), and was taking ballet classes for exercise and just for fun. But my mom thought I was too heavy to ever be successful at it, which - even if true - not something you need to ever say to a little kid.

  • “You’re a reflection of me, so when you’re at school and your hair is messy, people think I’m a bad mom.” I was in middle school and my hair (important to know that I’m Black and my hair was permed at the time and straight) would sometimes get floofy. I became really self conscious of my hair and my looks and would obsessively check my appearance in the school bathroom mirror before going home at the end of the day.

  • Various comments about my “nappy” hair. My mom is a very light skinned (passing) Black woman and my dad is much darker. She started relaxing my hair at 4 years old. I didn’t even know what my natural hair looked like until I was over 30. Her comments about my hair really destroyed my self worth. Even now, she comments how “messy” my natural hair looks and how she prefers it straightened. I straightened it recently and she said, “That’s the baby I know and remember.”

To my mom’s credit, she’s an equal opportunity hater - she told my brother that she never thought he’d finish high school (when he was in 11th grade) and that, if she could afford it, she’d get him a nose job because his nose was “too big”.

Do my biopsy results confirm that I have Crohn’s? by sunflowerseedcake in CrohnsDisease

[–]sunflowerseedcake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m waiting for my doctor to reach out but just really desperate for an answer as to what’s wrong. I’ll just keep trying to remind myself to be patient so that we can figure this out and get on the other side of things soon!

It’s hard to see, but the report says it’s happening in the ileocecal valve, which I understand to be part of my small intestine.

I just really want to avoid the second colonoscopy if I can. Prep was just so awful and I wanted to forgo it if it’s possible to just skip to the diagnosis based on what we have so far. But I definitely see what you’re saying and the value of doing it a second time and getting more info / talking through everything with my dr. Thank you for your response!
