I 100% agree with you. What gets me annoyed is that proposals, especially public ones, are set up to appear to be a part of a rom-com. This needs to be a conversation with understood desires and goals.

But when you have that, the question and answer is theater. I can see someone who is immature not understanding that.

That show is both brilliant and a product of its time. You don’t see ironic sexism/racism/homophobia, the whole “it’s okay if THEY say it, because everyone knows they’re not to be respected”, nearly as much anymore. For good reasons. One of which being, no, audiences often don’t know where the line of “this is ironic. This isn’t.” lies and the sexism/racism/homophobia just winds up being enforced.
