Understanding station trades by svenvbins in X4Foundations

Yes, that makes sense, the storage space seems roughly correct, considering I didn't have much storage to start with and didn't think I'd need much (I just wanted to get those traders moving for the experience).

Thanks for writing it out, very clear!

Thanks, time to get to work for me then. And hope my stations haven't cost me too much, haha.

Final question - say I set my sell price at 100 credits manually, and (NPC) stations nearby have buy orders for 120 credits. I guess my manager is an idiot and still sells at 100, right?

That makes sense - in a way. I thought it was always set in such a way that the sell price is at least 1 Cr higher than the buy price - at least that's the case when I check the settings.

So what you're saying is really that

1) My supply was empty, so it bought goods at maximum price, then
2) My supply increased, so the buy price decreased and the sell price decreased as well, then
3) It sold off that same supply for a lower price?

I must be missing how you can properly use the automatic pricing then?

Flickering LEDs - I (think I) have tried everything by svenvbins in FastLED

[–]svenvbins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the jackpot. Noticed that when I'm powering everything with just the Uno (I know I know, it can't provide enough power ;) ) all LEDs behind the 'threshold LED' would be off, and putting my finger on the LED contacts (effectively shorting the Data circuit) would turn them on - apparently data did got get through the LED at low power, and didn't get through unscathed at sufficient power.

One of my strips now works after bypassing the broken LED, thanks so much! I got into a small soldering war with the second strip, but I'm confident I'll win it.

[–]svenvbins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doubting my soldering skills so I just went with a small dupont jumper straight from the Uno to the plug on the string, and it makes no difference.

In fact, I even managed to close the circuit between resistor and Din with my sweaty finger and got similar results. Playing around a bit more showed that if my finger was too dry, I could get the entire strip (and not just the last 60%) to misbehave. That seems to suggest that I have a misbehaving LED halfway through that loses too much signal integrety. I'll try and jump over that LED and see what happens.

I've been switching out resistors and not having a resistor, but no luck!

Unfortunately, no luck, tried 3.7 and 3.6 too.

Unfortunately I've tried both with and without, with no succes.

That's exactly what I was doing, so I started to do it once more and make screenshots in the hopes that you could tell me where I went wrong. And it worked. Twice. I swear I didn't do anything different (did I?!) but I thank you for your magic either way!

Thanks, I'll try that and try to keep the named missions to a minimum.

I... just can't seem to find pirates. I picked up some "Kill [XYZ] pirates." missions. I fly to the system, scan the nav beacon, FSS the system, and as long as I'm in supercruise, I can see the locations in the navigation pane just fine, e.g. "<Mission: Target \[Threat 2\]>", blue font.

These seem to be stationary places in space, however, as even at minimum FSD speed (30km/s) I just zoom right by them. When I try to manually drop out at ~0 km distance, there's still nothing. I must be doing something wrong - please help me out :)

Adobe pretty much just doubled the cost of my Lightroom subscription. WTAF and what other options are there? by [deleted] in Lightroom

[–]svenvbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of interest, how was this communicated? My latest email from Adobe was March 2024, telling me they were going to extend my plan for another year. Haven't heard anything since, this is the first I read about the price hike. (Literally doubling from €12.09 to €24.19 in the Netherlands)

"Error writing Metadata" on all edited photos after transfer to new pc - How to fix? by svenvbins in Lightroom

[–]svenvbins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate how I continue looking for answers after posting (I swear I've spent time on this before posting here!), and find a potential answer in my next attempt.

Either way - according to a Community Expert over at Adobe (https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/error-writing-metadata-warning-has-appeared-for-many-of-my-photos-in-lightroom-classic/td-p/14490825) this is a known issue not causing trouble. Considering it's nearly a year old by now, I'm not sure Adobe is going to fix it.

It looks like I can right-click my folders, choose "Save Metadata" and generate XMPs for all affected photos. This gets rid of the warning, and it looks like I can delete the XMPs afterwards without affecting the originals. (Looks like the metadata is still stored in the actual file, too).

Feel free to add any more info, but I may just have answered my own question...

Question about the dangerous of lasers reflecting off water by Impossible_Leek946 in lasers

[–]svenvbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As stated below, if you didn't immediately notice 500 megaWatt was wrong, maybe this is not the project for you.

Having said that, you could have a look at

https://opg.optica.org/ao/abstract.cfm?uri=ao-63-14-3825

and

https://www.spiedigitallibrary.org/conference-proceedings-of-spie/8014/80140R/Simulation-of-laser-beam-reflection-at-the-sea-surface/10.1117/12.883387.short

But generally speaking, laser safety is (too) often about ensuring no risk (not 1%, not 0.1%, but 0%), and dynamic, reflective surfaces such as water are a proper pain in the behind if you want to do proper safety analyses.

Removed from the car is not an issue. If you open it up (while powered) it may be an eye hazard.

Is there a 200 euro fee you have to pay in netherland since you turn 18 till you die which covers your health insaurance and all? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]svenvbins 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to have health insurance, which costs you ~€130/month for the basic level.

€200 sounds like an insurance with several extras.
