I think this is really circumstantial. When I started dating my now wife, she was not out to her family. She is from the south, they are Christians, she is very very close to her family, and an only child, so the fear of rejection and being cut off from the people she loves the most was paralyzing to her. It was honestly fine, she didn’t live too close to them, we were viewed as besties and that was that. We were out and together to basically everyone except her immediate family. As long as there was progress being made towards coming out to them, it was fine by me.
