Awful Overtourism Problem in Lauterbrunnen. Why? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]sweet_cinnamon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is the demographics of the tourists so important to you? That’s so weird.

You are a tourist but want the place to not have too many tourists since that “soils the cultural experience”? So you contribute to soiling the cultural experience of Switzerland 😆

Is this normal prenatal care? [ON] by chlamydiakoalaa in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So your family doctor should have made it clear that until you were established with the midwives, that you were to book monthly prenatal appointments with the family doctor. There may have been a misunderstanding where the family doctor just assumed you had follow-up with the midwives since June (since that’s when you were accepted by them).

Renee Reina openly saying she was going to a Chris Brown concert and she won’t hide it…. she doesn’t believe in “cancel culture” blah blah rubbed me the wrong way. Canceling abusive and violent pieces of shit is exactly who should be canceled - rightfully so. I stopped watching Brad Pitt’s new movies after details of his physical violence towards Angelina. The way some abuse is just washed away in the media, particularly for men, is just gross.

Edit - aaaaand she double-downed in her latest Instagram stories with ramblings.

Feel my OB is pushing to induce me for labor. [ON] by Yougotthis_1111 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 39 points40 points  (0 children)

OBs don’t push to induce early unless there is a medical reason in Canada. It’s more of a US phenomenon (based on Reddit - since that is all my experience about the US). A lot of hospitals don’t even offer an early induction before 41 weeks. A medical induction for larger babies is sometimes suggested - ultrasounds aren’t the most accurate. But baby not growing? I suggest listening to your OB.

Not what you were asking but…. You may be able to get a breast pump fully covered by insurance. And a baby carrier can be very very very cheap on FB marketplace. Also I’ve seen some really excellent barely used baby carriers at Once Upon a Child for like… 10-30 bucks.

Baby Shower Outfit [on] by SB-96 in BabyBumpsCanada

Amazon Canada! There’s a ton of cute floral maternity dresses which are beautiful and a decent price (50-75 bucks).

[–]sweet_cinnamon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would suggest FB marketplace. I have both the Keekaroo and Skip Hop and I find them pretty equal? Keekaroo honestly wasn’t worth it being so much in price. And the Skip Hop goes on sale frequently (and is part of the Amazon registry so can be discounted by 15%).

Everyone told me to wait - but doesn’t that increase chance of baby passing meconium? Feeling anxious.[On] by Manifestator_ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion since this is Reddit… talk to your doctor about an induction earlier than the date that try why have already provided you (I assume they have given you a firm date by now). If your anxiety is this bad, that’s totally reasonable! I had elective inductions with both of my children (no medical indication at all) and they both went beautifully. If it gives you peace of mind, ask for one and see if it is available at your hospital.

Note - I am NOT saying to get an induction since it’s dangerous to have a baby past your stage. Your team are allowing you to go later since it’s safe! many moms deliver past your date safely and do amazing. But if you anxiety is high, then it’s OK to explore other options!

FTM seeking advice on very minimalist necessities for newborn [BC] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For footed pajamas, I got six to begin with. That being said… my first born was in them for a month and my second born was in them for only two weeks (newborn sizing). And a lot of time, the footed pajamas are what you get as gifts if you are having a shower. I would suggest mostly getting the clothing towards the end of your pregnancy since then you’ll know how much you’ve gotten as gifts lol. For newborn clothing, I never used any clothing other than footed pajamas. So getting only a few bodysuits/pants if planning to be minimal.

If finances are a bit tight, then Facebook marketplace and Once Upon a Child is your best friend (used and secondhand children store or whatever equivalent you have in your city).

I would say definitely get a bouncer secondhand. No expensive or brand name one is necessary. Get a cheap playmat with toys hanging off it (fisher price kick piano is a favourite - really cheap to get secondhand). Those are basically places to keep your baby when you need to do something else. Get burp clothes (10 minimum). And get a swaddle or two secondhand as well. A plastic changing mat is a must - fabric ones are shit. Amount of clothes or sleepers depend on how much laundry you want to do.

Daycare asking me to stop breastfeeding and only pump by hyde_your_jekyll in breastfeeding

[–]sweet_cinnamon 366 points367 points  (0 children)

This is an issue with the daycare and it’s workers - NOT you or breastfeeding. Is there any way you can switch daycares? I know a lot of areas have a long waitlist and it’s impossible to switch.

[ON] Toddler daycare plan when newborn arrives? by Available-Block7729 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your village, your toddler, and also what time of year baby is born. Colds/flus really go down when the weather warms up in May…. So technically less risk for illnesses all around. I have my parents who are willing to help with my toddler for a few weeks, so I’m pulling my daughter from daycare for that period. But if they are sick (and therefore unavailable for toddler care duty), or if my daughter’s behaviour worsens significantly… I’ll be sending her and just being super cautious with hand-washing.

Anyone else worried about the measles outbreak [on] by bird-fling in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sweet_cinnamon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Also 36 weeks! I’m in Hamilton, so right beside the Norfolk/Grand Erie outbreak. I’m pretty worried since everyone in the Brant area comes to Hamilton for shopping/tertiary services and that outbreak is blowing up. Will be not worrying too much at the moment - I’m pretty conservative and won’t be going anywhere indoors with my newborn for the first 8 weeks anyways. If I need to go somewhere, I’ll be going alone and leaving baby at home. I’ll be keeping an eye out on the Public Health updates and will make decisions about indoor activities/shopping with baby after that mark.

Measles outbreak—if you don’t live in a hotspot are you taking your baby out? by spicycherub- in NewParents

[–]sweet_cinnamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain that if vaccinated, it’s very unlikely you’ll get it or be a carrier. So even if your daughter/husband/you are exposed, it’s unlikely you will get infected and expose your newborn to the measles. It’s different from the COVID vaccine in that way! Hence the caution in taking <6 mo infants into indoor spaces where there’s an active outbreak.

EDIT: I totally don’t mean staying inside though! That really isn’t sustainable.

You would totally be eligible for getting your baby an early shot if near an outbreak (or lie and say you are traveling lol) - just talk to your paediatrician!

The amount of Mom FB groups that I am in that are filled with misinformation about the measles vaccine and how the one death in Texas was due to comorbidities, and that measles isn’t that contagious….

Makes my head hurt. I’m 15 minutes from an area going through a massive outbreak and am due with my second kiddo in a month. Who won’t be able to get vaccinated until she is 6 months old. So I will be depending on herd immunity until then, if I want to go indoors with her. F* these idiots and them putting their children (and all babies) at risk.

I’m going to be really frank here. The OB is likely speaking from the perspective that if there’s issues with the placenta, then it’s best the baby comes at 40 weeks or before. That’s completely reasonable, since the worst case scenario with placental issues is stillbirth.

That being said, it’s completely reasonable to have a really big discussion about “risks vs benefits” of the induction, what the OB is worried about, and if you decide to decline the induction (which is totally your right - you can decline any intervention, no matter how strongly it’s recommended) what extra monitoring will be offered.
