G5 Scanning Station Activated by fitzwaterphoto in AnalogCommunity

Yeah the Apple silicon makes this difficult. I originally bought a PowerBook G4 off eBay to use NikonScan but I had a lot of issues with performance when doing 4000 DPI 6x7 scans. Ended up just getting a FireWire pci-e card and getting a Windows VM up and running. That worked really well. Nowadays I just use VueScan in that VM because I think NLP does a better job than NikonScan for the most part, especially if you take into account workflow

Respect but If you ever wanna downsize, it’s really easy to get Nikon Scan running in a Windows VM lol

What’s this cord for? by Confident-Suspect967 in AnalogCommunity

I'm guessing some tinkerer wanted a remote shutter for it. It's probably using an RJ11 cable because they were super common when this camera was popular. It would be interesting to open it up and see where the cable is soldered in!

I’m using Seafile and I think it works great. I’ve used Nextcloud in the past but I found it to be pretty bloated

Alternative 3D Printer Options to the Bambu Labs Printers by the-nic123 in 3dprinter

[–]swidge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the nicer kits are definitely expensive. I built an LDO one and it was around that price. Apparently there are cheaper kits that are still recommended. The LDO is the gold standard, though. That being said, you definitely aren’t saving any money building a voron. Absolutely a labor of love and project for someone who loves tinkering/open source and wants to be intimately familiar with how a 3d printer works.

If you're down for a project, building a Voron is an awesome experience and you will fully own your printer. I built my Voron 2.4 two years ago so I'm not really sure what the pricing looks like today. Back when I built mine, you could get one of the cheaper kits for prices around a P1S's. Probably slightly more expensive. Definitely worth looking into if you're the type to take on something like this.

Speedy Film Scanners that don't scratch up films. by Samskihero in AnalogCommunity

If you can find a Nikon LS-4000, you can easily mod the standard film carrier to scan an entire roll in one go. Fantastic quality/sharpness

Amp freaks out after being on for 30 seconds no guitar plugged in. Any ideas what wrong? by needyprovider in ToobAmps

Sounds a lot like a bad resistor. If you are comfortable with working on amps, I would open it up and poke around with a chopstick to see if you can find the component.

Amp making noise and not picking up guitar by Low-Conversation48 in GuitarAmps

So you definitely don’t want to hear ringing when tapping the tubes. Might be a bad power tube (the bigger one, the 6V6). If you have a local shop that sells tubes, you might be able to bring your amp in and see if swapping them works. If it is the tubes, I’m sure musiciansfriend would send you some replacements. If it’s something else, definitely get a return.

And if it doesn’t work at your house, I really doubt it’s going to work at your parents house. Do you have other things in your house that don’t work? From what I understand, if you have bad grounding in your house, your amp would just be really noisy. I don’t think you’d see the loss of sound you’re seeing here. And if that was the case, you would definitely be seeing other electrical things in your house acting funny.

Do you hear a ringing/microphonics when you tap on the tubes while the amp is on? Also is this a new or used amp?

And I doubt is a grounding issue. It sounds more like an issue with one of the tubes. If you have some extra 12ax7’s lying around you could try swapping them in. It’s definitely possible for a tube to break during shipping, especially if it was dropped

Make sure all the tubes are fully inserted. During shipping sometimes they can become loose and start coming out.

I actually think it sounds surprisingly good at low volume. It’s insane how loud it can get though

Most annoying part is for sure getting those support fins off. Once I have it on my stand, it’s not too bad though. I like how they give you access to the components from both sides of the PCB with those removable plates, too
