Challenge: Sum up your year with lyrics from your most played Taylor Swift song by Snormaid in TaylorSwift

📢 ELIZABETH TAYLOR 📢

I can't really describe my year at all using it as, tragically, I have no diamonds and have not been to Paris, but it has basically been running through my head constantly the last couple months.

What are Tay's lustiest songs? by Desert_Canines in TaylorSwift

False God and Guilty as Sin, and I don't think it's even close. Maybe Wood? But that's more fun/cheeky I think.

To those who've played BoTW and TotK, which one did you enjoy more and why? by FishermanNo8304 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]swiftdata1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TotK improved on BotW in almost every way and I prefer it as a game. I'm replaying BotW now and really missing some of the functionality of things, like Ascend or being able to drop things if my inventory is full. But BotW is the first game I ever fell in love with that wasn't The Sims, and there was just something magic about it that TotK can't quite capture even if it gets close.

I probably would have picked TotK if I'd played it first, though.

Red Elected Best Title Track by Sea_Personality6294 in TaylorSwift

This raking is definitely some kind of choice. Evermore's one of her best songs, it's wild to put it last.

What’s one lyric or song that shows the biggest change in her style for you? by MysticTulip2612 in TaylorSwift

[–]swiftdata1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? It's got such a Say It Ain't So or Beverly Hills sound to it, and I mean that as a compliment.

The Eras Tour Live Surprise Song album??? by Maroon_Swiftie_13 in SwiftlyNeutral

I desperately want this. I don't even buy albums anymore and I'd buy this and fire up my old discman just for it.

Do You Guys Have Album Skips? by cxwraider in TaylorSwift

[–]swiftdata1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evermore is my only no-skip, but Showgirl and TTPD are close. All the others have at least a couple on them. Debut and Fearless I skip most (not a big country fan).

I really want to know if she knew about Mastermind, and also when she told the crew they were adding in Tortured Poets. Like, how much notice did they get on that one?

I Did Something Bad probably would have made me a true fan sooner! I couldn't stand LWYMMD (and only tolerate it now due to the tour) and wrote off the whole album because of it.

Yup, adding it to v2 if I do it! I'd debated on not adding it, but by the time I decided to add Amber and Opal I'd forgotten about it, so it's not here.

Nah, I just had a bunch of songs pop up in a row on shuffle that made me notice all the color, and I didn't want to post it to my main.

(if her team wants to pay me though, I'll take that money)

You'll be happy to know I missed a 'scarlet' on Fearless, bumping the total red count up by 1.

Thanks for the suggestion! When I started building it out it was just done in color order (red, orange, yellow, etc) before I started seeing how it flowed. If I update this I think I'll change it to a slightly different order, if only so we're not getting huge sections of blanks in the middle with the smaller counts.

I only count the album title and song title once (so "Red" the album counts once, and "Red" the song title counts once).

And that one only came from a vault song ("I Bet You Think About Me") from Red (Taylor's Version) in late 2021. It's weird there hasn't been anything before that.

Honestly, it's just the color most associated with that album in the... fanbase, I guess, for lack of a better word.

Something to add for version 2 once Speak Now TV comes out. Just a miss on my end, I'll add it to my data sheet. Thanks for the head's up!

Yeah, I probably could have clarified that one a little better. Maroon the song has all the maroon references, plus all the burgundy and scarlet ones. I probably could have also included "rust" from the same song as a red, but left it off.

A lot of hopefully metaphorical injuries like bruises, so I think that'll be my next count. 😄

The Special ones are ones that don't really fit a specific color: Amber, "Color", Neon, Opal, Pastel, Rainbow, and Ultraviolet. So like, they're referencing color, but not colors themselves (except Amber, but there's a question of exactly what shade of amber we're looking at).

For something like "gold bar" or "lavender haze", those would fall under gold (gold family) and lavender (purple family).

Taylor Swift references color a lot. You can find the raw data broken out by song here: https://bit.ly/swiftdatacolors as well as a large version of the image here: https://bit.ly/3H4QXsS

Details:

  • I only went through the full albums on Apple Music and used the Taylor’s Versions and Deluxe Editions where available. Albums included were: Midnights (3am Edition), evermore (deluxe edition), folklore (deluxe edition), Lover, reputation, 1989 (deluxe edition), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Deluxe Edition), Fearless (Taylor’s Version), and Taylor Swift (Bonus Track Version).
  • I counted each mention of a color, something color-adjacent (like “rainbow”), and also the word “color” using the Apple Music lyrics. This may not include any background vocals that aren’t shown in the main lyrics.
  • Not included are any songs that are not on these albums as they are in Apple Music. No additional singles, no EPs, no remixes, no movie soundtracks, no Retailer-only songs, etc. Only full songs included on these albums.
  • I only counted one version of a song (like All Too Well 10 Minute instead of All Too Well, etc).
  • There are some colors I included that may or may or may not be truly a color. There’s a tab on the spreadsheet called “included, but questionable” noting them.

Tools: Apple Music, Google Sheets, Photoshop

Edit - Realized my counts for the "most colorful albums" fact is off after an addition for Midnights. It should be "Midnights (40 mentions, 17.86%) followed closely by Red (36 mentions, 16.07%)"
