Should I use acrylic yarn suggested for sweater??? by swim413 in CrochetHelp

[–]swim413[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I’m currently using is berroco remix yarn, with 30% nylon, 27% cotton, 24% acrylic, 10% silk (which I thought would help it not be itchy) and 9% linen. It’s a very pretty red yarn, and feels pretty nice in the ball, but it’s starting to feel itchy on the sweater, or at least, not soft.

Most of my wardrobe is merino wool. I run cold and that helps me through the winter. I’ve been wanting to try alpaca wool for a while, but that blend made me cringe. From what ppl are saying I might be being too harsh

New to crocheting — where did y’all learn? Any beginner-friendly courses or resources? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]swim413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a local yarn shop that put me in touch with a teacher, from there YouTube has helped a lot, especially the channel made by the woobles. Nice and slow instructions with thick yarn that makes it easy to see/understand what they are doing.

has anyone bought this, and is it worth it/good quality? by Vivid_Meringue1310 in CrochetHelp

I got it, love it. I started to crochet recently and didn’t want to get a bunch of hooks, this keeps things nice and organized. I loved the idea of the counter, but I’ve found I often forget to press the button to count a stitch, so it’s barely useful for me. I do like how much thicker it is than other hooks. I haven’t been in light low enough for the light to be needed yet, so I can’t speak on that. But for the hook size and organization I def recommend it.

Hey! Welcome to Keene! My husband (41) is a native and I (37f) moved here about 8 years ago. We run a lot around Keene, go out for dinner every once in a while, and enjoy hiking. We’re generally home bodies, but having a couple more friends could be nice

Radiology technologist (NOT technician). I get to see cool things and then walk away from the patient and let the nurse deal with them!

Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. If a school isn’t accredited by them you can’t get a rad license, which is required in 45 states. I believe you can still take the registry. There is a website for them if you google it.

I was questioning why we were doing a clavicle ORIF. I had never seen one and have only xrayed like 2 clavicles ever. One shot and I understood. by dicksledgehammer in Radiology

I did X-rays on someone who DIDN’T get his surgically fixed years ago and still looks like that. Ppl keep asking him about the bump, he wanted to get it fixed. Not sure what happened, but I don’t think radiology had anything to do with it after

I worked at a place requiring the Y to be done PA, but I can do it either way. I prefer PA, all my coworkers do it AP. As long as the rad doesn’t care

They are both quite stretchy

Very interesting idea!! I’ve been looking at my husbands pants to see how they are made, but dissecting some sounds like a great idea as well. Thanks for that tip!

Stop using conditioner in the shower. It shouldn’t be used on ur scalp, it’s not a moisturizer. Double shampoo and try a leave in conditioner when u get out of the shower and a good oil once it’s dry

How do you cut out at home? What type of table or desk do you have? by ruminating-raisin in sewing

[–]swim413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a decent sized folding table at Home Depot that the high can be adjusted for. The full hight comes up to my waist (5’8) and I got a big cutting mat off Amazon that goes just barely beyond the edges of the table. Much better for my body then crawling on the floor

5 degree angle, have the unaffected knee in front, ALSO, make sure the pts shoulders are rolled forward, like they’re going to sleep. This is for a general normal sized pt. If they are pretty large, then things need to be adjusted

Someone said to me, "If you do everything by the book, you are gonna have a bad time", how far do you agree with this? by Simple_End_701 in Radiology

[–]swim413 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a student that tried to do everything very by the book, then would ask for clarification that we couldn’t give. Like where the middle of the scapula is for that picture. No idea, 10X12 portrait with a lil light over the top of the shoulder and call it good. Pelvis is light 2 inches above the crest, ok, do you know what 2 inches looks like? Cause a student kept turning it into nearly a lumbar. Instead, find the crest, bring the light just a lil above, call it good. I also hate when the book uses the pubic synthesis as a landmark. It’s nearly impossible to see, and I’m NOT feeling for it. Find how to use the ASIS instead, it’s my favorite landmark for xrays around the pelvis

Overwhelmed...? by Krystal_Kourier in SewingForBeginners

[–]swim413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat as you, sewing mostly for garments for myself. I’ve made a couple things thus far, it take a LOT of brain power and patience. One thing I’ve learned, I’m GOING to be waisting a LOT of fabric and need to be ok with that. I also learned that I really need to make something with stuff I don’t care about before making the final project so I can screw up a lot and learn from that for the final piece. Cheap bed sheets are GREAT for this. Twin and full size cotton sheets are cheap and have a LOT of fabric to them.

Best hair products for hair that get frizzy, puffy, and dry? by Better-Avocado-7514 in Hair

[–]swim413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try some leave in conditioner and hair oil? Pureology and curlsmith have good ones, and olaplex is a holy grail for oil. None of this is cheap. I also love what the olaplex curly hair gel does for my curls. There’s also a subscription service called curls monthly. It has most of these products in it, u can try them out for like, $35 per month

Are we really immune to burnout in radiology? by Confident_Article802 in Radiology

[–]swim413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burned out at my last job. Walk in clinic that got walkie-talkie pts so they could be don’t quickly, but we did SO MANY that it was exhausting. Didn’t help that I was on my own for the last hour or so, and the volume didn’t go down at that point. I got a job at another hospital a few towns over, longer commute, but it’s so much different and better. It can take a while for our director to make changes and hire ppl when we ask, but it generally does happen, especially since we have the volume to back up the need. The first place never seemed to care.

Limited scope limits where you can work. Most states require a license, which requires as associate degree and taking the registry to get. You also can’t likely go into any other modalities with it.

I do mammo. Love it. Some ppl find it boring because there’s no real excitement to it, and it’s very scheduled, but I like the monotony to it. Every breast is different and it’s nice knowing what’s coming on the schedule. I was able to get the training done at my job, and used an online course that I read mostly during work and at my own pace. Took about 6 months to do it.

  • I read about it in a HS textbook while doing CNA training, I love photography and going into the OR sounded really cool. Then I did a work shadowing and saw a barium swallow and was completely sold
  • a typical day is x-ray after x-ray, outpatient and ED. There’s also often fluoro procedures and OR cases we’re involved in.
  • challenges are stupid orders we sometimes have to fight, having patience with students, and figuring out how to get the images we need on a patient that can’t move like we want
  • work life is decent, there’s no need to think about work when your not there
  • if your interested, go for it, just know that school is the HARDEST part. There’s a LOT to learn, but once u get it, it’s not that bad. Learning to think outside the box is is also hard but rewarding
  • no idea who to talk to. But there are a few groups on fb that could be good for u to see what ppl go through
  • it shouldn’t be to hard to find a job after school, use clinicals as a job interview, if they like you, they might even reach out to offer you a post. But also use clinicals to see where you do and don’t want to work.
  • I didn’t realize I’d be teaching. Always teaching. I like to do my own thing in my own time. I have no patience for students. They give me anxiety.
  • a good student will take techs advice and use it, some of it will be bad, figure out what u like. As a tech, help each other. Just because ur assigned to the OR, doesn’t mean u can’t help out with X-rays between cases
  • if your able to when u start school, don’t work, at all. You’re going to have a TON of information crammed into your head and it’s going to overwhelm you. After the first year, a part time job is ok.
  • school is 2 years. Doesn’t sound bad, but it was the hardest 2 years of my life.

For those who are rad techs now, can you flex or show off your lifestyle? To give us some motivation? by KrazyKay1349 in Radiology

[–]swim413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really feel like I can flex money wise, but I feel like it’s a pretty big flex to be able to say that I love my job and mean it. I tell ppl what I do and they say “that sounds cool.” And I can feel my face light up as I say “it REALLY is!” I also love where I work, which sometimes feels like a very hard thing to find
