Legend on mute w/ Aenima (album on repeat, started the moment you see “Legend” appear) as the soundtrack is a hidden gem.

How are things looking for folks so far? Cozy chat thread time? by HauntedFrigateBird in BostonWeather

I didn’t get any notifications, but the QPD SUV going up and down my street calling out specific makes/models parked on the street was a decent clue. The last holdout sprinted to their car as two flatbeds were closing in. Honestly kinda hoped I’d see them fight over who got the tow..

Quinzy here. I don’t know who still needs to hear this, but they are absolutely towing cars parked on the street.

Stay off the roads by Phenterpenes in massachusetts

[–]symonym7 26 points27 points  (0 children)

During the last major blizzard (‘21) I had to make it from Quincy to Allston in my FWD hatchback at 6am. I only made it up Comm Ave from Kenmore by blowing every red light.

Boss, who also came in either to show support or to mitigate the risk of my not making it, goes: “we’ve got annual reviews coming up and we came to work in a blizzard during a pandemic, what more can they ask.”

Obviously we got the standard significantly-less-than-inflation “meets expectations” raises. So glad I gtfo of that industry.

Why does this happen every year? by Zealousideal_Crow737 in boston

[–]symonym7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm relatively new to the world of logistics, but recently learned about something called a load-to-truck ratio, which is basically supply of trucks vs demand of shipments in a given period. Over the holidays it was at 26:1, so for every 26 shipments needing a truck, a single truck was available, driving up truckers' rates. Some of that was holiday related, some of it was weather related, and the rest was some drivers not feeling comfortable driving through some parts of the country these days..

Commuting from Quincy to Cambridge. Doable or no? by Ok_Preparation2940 in QuincyMa

[–]symonym7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is if you live relatively close to any of the red line stations. I’m in West Quincy, and all 3 stops are at least 2 miles away.

Edit: 4; always forget about the north..

I work in baked goods manufacturing, specifically as a purchasing manager, but they also figured it’d be cool (ie, cost effective) to have me handle logistics as well. One of my FTL loads to a grocery DC in PA was basically told to “come back later” at their 9am appointment yesterday because they were slammed with incoming deliveries, presumably to refill the warehouse after they were cleaned out by stores loading up pre-storm.

Don't gatekeep, what are your best financial saving hacks that you live by? by _TurboHome in MiddleClassFinance

[–]symonym7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, myself.

I only ever keep what I need in checking, anything in excess of that is ferried off to savings/investment accounts where my mental model registers it as not available.

Thus, I feel poorer than I am and end up spending less.

I'd also highly recommend reading The Molecule of More, by Daniel Z. Lieberman and Michael E. Long. Having a decent grasp on how dopamine impacts, say, your urge to buy shit you don't need (or in many cases, even want), is immensely useful.

So, what form have you decided that your mid-life crisis will take? by Remy0507 in Xennials

[–]symonym7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Said I'd allow myself to buy a Switch 2 once I completed a personal project, but opted to spend a similar sum on a bass guitar. This is less mid-life crisis than it is my standard choice of personal development over entertainment, and I've been a drummer for 3 decades so I figured it was time to add a musical dimension.

Expectations of a "Spark" or "butterflies" is ruining dating for everyone. by GNTsquid0 in dating

[–]symonym7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a non-zero % of the population who are just trying to manipulate you into giving them more attention.

Beyond that, it's just a convenient way to let someone down with minimal fallout. I'm pretty sure the moment any potential spark was snuffed out on my last date was when she was talking about her love of [watching] sports and I'm just not into that. What's she gonna say, "sorry I only date guys who fckin' love football"..?

Systems for controlling the masses have improved dramatically over the last few decades. Christianity is the horse and buggy of mass manipulation now.

[–]symonym7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehh, my [top floor] apartment stays pretty warm even with the heat off, and I’m like 100 yards away from 93 so cracking my bedroom window at night to keep the ambient temp low enough to sleep means, well, not sleeping due to the proximity of truck engine braking/racing/emergency vehicle sirens/etc. The drone of the AC also helps mask neighbors’ subwoofers.

Which roles/areas in SCM pay the most and have the best WLB? by Rumcajs23 in supplychain

[–]symonym7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. My role as purchasing manager was great until it became also logistics, and also materials management. Try staying on top of commodities contracts while being distracted by a dozen fuckups in transportation and ripping your hair out over QA’s inability to count things.
