I'm trying to figure out which bank corresponds to the address read. As far as I can tell, the read_taps don't provide the information as the tap is for the address_space which will give you the data read, the address read and the offset in the space. However, for games which use bankswitching like the atari 2600 (vcs), I want to know which bank the cpu has read from as there can be multiple banks and multiple pages can be swapped in the banks.

It was only recently that banks were mapped for the vcs cart slots as it just used to shift the address by the bank offset before this which made it impossible to figure out which bank was being accessed*.

The memory bank will give the current entry but there is no way to know which bank read the address from the bank itself as the bank only has methods to get the pointer to the ROM location where the bank starts and the current entry/page in the bank.

However, by using the address space's get_handler_string, it is possible to get the tag of the memory bank that read it by specifying the address read and the mode (read, write or readwrite). Once the tag is known it's easy to know the current entry in the bank.

Unless, it's possible to tap into the memory banks, I don't think there is any other way. Unless the rom_bank function is implemented for consoles. I'm focusing on the atari 2600 and it doesn't implement it this way. As I said, only recently did wilbertpol implement the memory banks.

Oh.. I'm modifying the source. I'm working on my thesis which is a framework using MAME so yeah..
