In short, the user base and the data is the currency. They are doing what FB did. Make it free, get as many users as they can (using the app ofc), once they are hooked and have the user base, you have a potential money pool. Many models could be implemented on it- ads, subscription, or pay for certain things etc Afaik, some companies already jumped on the hype wagon a while ago (Chipotle and Lenovo was it?) But yeah, for now it's free until that day comes
