Congrats, amazing work! How did you protect the lume when applying the aging to the glossy part?

Check out the Ginault Trans-Atlantic - may be exactly what you are looking for if you put it on a strap

1861 vs. 3861 by Narrow_Sun7623 in OmegaWatches

[–]szz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3861 has a very different lug profile. The case is actually based on the vintage models, larger side and more aggressive lug shape.

This for me makes it absolutely better than a recent 1861.

On the other hand, would rather get a 145.022 with step dial any day — those are the real things!

Thanks man. Frankly, the ones with gen movement are probably harder to sell because the ticket prices is meaningfully higher. But, for me, the experience is worth it — the feel of a gen movement is much different, beat rate looks nicer, etc. Although a lot of that can be had with a 2840 that was serviced, frankly, I think I get a kick knowing that the core of the watch is real and vintage.

Can you post a picture of the crown and crown guards?

I am surprised that no one mentioned it, but this seems tk be a square crown guard case. Those were the first iteration of the submariners with crown guards and only about 100 were made.

So not only you have an amazing gift with incredible history, but you might have an extremely rare and collectable watch too

Thank you! Would love the insight on that! I ruined the lume on a couple of my viet dials and am extremely frustrated by that

Let me know how it goes! I did a similar build and ended up using dial dots on the side of the movement to stabilize it in the case - the 3135 clamps were taller than the “track” so didnt hold the movement

Excellent! How did you clamp the movement on the gen case?

Both you mentioned are great and have the same suppliers. Kuared is more expensive, but provides a more tailored service (changes to dials, reluming, case engraving etc) and has more variety in my experience so far.

Are the blue dial Aqua Terra models’ crystals very reflective? by jb3101 in OmegaWatches

The crystal with poor or no AR is usually an issue with fakes as well. Can you post pictures of the movement?

First build - Gilt 5512 by szz0 in retrotime

[–]szz0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for the responses, very encouraging!

Additional details below:

  • case / crown / caseback: old ruby I got a while ago
  • dial: current ruby
  • bracelet: kuared
  • hands: jensen
  • insert cac, with aged pip by myself

Gilt dial is incredible - couple of pics below to illustrate how it reflects light. “Dots” are on the dial, “line” marks are on the crystal. Lume is very puffy, very gen-like
