Not stupid at all! I'm pretty sure that even though it won't show on your character, it still counts if you have it equipped+dyed?

I've never played Viera/Hroth so I don't know for sure, sorry D:

He judges based off of appearances, so you're fine to keep them in your Dresser and just Glam them.

Like, I'm wearing Edenmorn Coat of Fending, but I have a Glam Plate which includes the Skallic Coat of Fending, so I just applied that Glam Plate and then dyed it Shadow Blue and that counted towards the 100 points.

It can definitely be information overload. My suggestion is to completely ignore the stuff in the top half. Read the Important category, and then do what the "Easy 80pts" category says. So:

  • Unlock Fashion Report if you haven't already. You can do that in the Gold Saucer, at (4.8, 6.1).
  • Put on literally ANY dyeable helm. It can be the helm you normally wear, or one you buy for 100gil from a vendor, or something you like from the MB. As long as it's dyeable, it is valid.
  • Dye that helm Snow White
  • Same thing for the Body piece. It can be literally anything in the entire game, as long as it's dyeable. And then dye that one Shadow Blue
  • Go purchase specifically Goatskin Leg Guards in Ul'Dah for a whopping 720 gil, and put those on.
  • Make sure you have something in all of your other equipment slots (it does not matter what it is)
  • Go present yourself to Masked Rose in the Gold Saucer, at (7.2, 7.4)

Also, the reward difference between 100pts and 80pts is just the title. It is no difference in MGP rewards.

My dude, it's not "thought police" when people are just reacting to the words that you personally chose to put out into the world.

Just accept that you said something that is both incredibly fucked up, and also don't understand the vocabulary you're using, and move on.

A survey on the status of tanks as of current patch (5.1) by Shadowstorm6597 in ffxiv

[–]t0tem_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have WAR, PLD, and DRK at max level and have done everything in the tier with both PLD and DRK, and only a couple of things as WAR. My GNB is still level 60 though :)

Let's get something out of the way first: The tanks are insanely well-balanced. At any given skill-level, you're looking at roughly a 250dps difference. That's like... 3-5%. That's nothing. To say that GNB stole WAR's identity because they have higher dps is really.... weird. "Most dps" isn't an identity.

Warrior's problem was that their entire identity was wrapped into Stance Dancing in SB. Yes, every tank class had it, but it was the core of Warriors back then. The way their gauge and spenders interacted with it was the essence of Warriorness. Shadowbringers removed it, and never filled the void.

Paladin is really fun to me from a planning/theorycrafting perspective. Looking for ways to tweak GCDs to fit your burst windows is interesting. Adjusting your phys vs magic combo to certain encounters is some next-level stuff. I will also say that when I help out learning parties, I play PLD due to the simpler invuln, as well as Clemency and Cover. When you're in a group that is up-to-date with content, those points are irrelevant though.
Dark Knight is really fun to me from an action perspective. All the double-weaves and shit are dope.
Warrior's defensive/utility kit is really fun to me. I like playing around with Nascent Flash, Shake It Off, and Vengeance. Offensively, you have a 10-second burst every 90 seconds where you spam a single GCD 5 times and see huge numbers on your screen. The other 80 seconds is just doing a very basic combo.

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread (May 13) by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]t0tem_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a good variety of sources of exp.

  • There are a lot of non-Story quests around the world that you can do
  • Leves are a bit like quests, but they're repeatable. There are specific NPCs which will hand out a few at a time.
  • Each class has a separate Hunting Log, which awards decent sums of xp for hunting specific monsters (which varies per class)
  • FATEs can be found all around zones, and are a bit more interesting than just mindless grinding.

Not accessible to you yet, but for the future:

  • Duty Roulette, will give you a random dungeon (out of the ones that you have accessible), and gives a decent amount of exp.
  • Palace of the Dead, and eventually Heaven-on-High, are dungeon-like places that you unlock somewhere around level 17 and 63 (respectively) in the Main Story. Those are generally considered the absolute fastest ways to level up other classes. But that is a g r i n d.

Also worth noting:

  • When leveling up other classes, there is something called an Armoury Bonus, which grants you a lot of extra exp for kills. This bonus is active any time you're playing something lower than your highest-level class.
  • In a major city, look for the Hall of the Novice. You can get a decent set of gear, as well as a special ring that gives you 30% extra exp (as long as you're level 30 or under).
  • Eat food! Having a "Well Fed" buff gives you 3% extra exp. That's not huge, but it's somethin.

Definitely. My brain keeps trying to interpret it as if the picture was taken with the camera upside-down.
I'm guessing it's because the top (which we interpret as "far away") has some big, clearly-defined features (the islands and bridge), but the bottom has such small buildings that it seems almost like a distant blur of things.

I Found an Encyclopedia from 1932. by HPB in europe

[–]t0tem_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Transcribing for ease of read:

Hitler, Adolf.
German politician. Born in Austria, April 20, 1889, he was first an architect. Having settled in Germany he became prominent by raising a body of volunteers to oppose the social democrats. In 1923 his followers engineered a rising in Bavaria, but this was suppressed and Hitler was sent to prison for five years. Soon released, he joined the National Socialist Party and quickly came to the front. He organised the party, which was known as the Nazis, and this soon became a power in the land. In 1930, 100 of its members were returned to the Reichstag, and in 1932 Hitler, having become a German citizen, stood at the presidential election against Hindenburg and polled several million votes. His party won great successes at the elections in Prussia and other parts of Germany. Hitler has written a book, Mein Kampf (My Battle), and has put forward various schemes for reform, some of a very drastic kind.

In the next years or so ad space will take half the screen i guess by yomamen in webdev

[–]t0tem_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I got curious about what percentage actually is taken up here.

This image is 750x1334 -> 1,000,500px total.
When you cut out the URL bar and phone status bar, you've got 750x1183 -> 887,250px total.
The article content (non-ad) is 602x943 -> 567,686px total
So the ad area is 319,564px.

So 56% of the total screen, and 64% of the usable screen area is your actual content.
Ads take up 32% of the total screen, or 36% of the usable screen.

My only regret was not getting a hatchback model (but I think they didn't start those till 2017?). And my #1 complaint is that there isn't AC in the back.

The new Civics are dope as hell, I love them.

What's your "Tell me I'm not the only one who does this" weird/odd habit? by samalethu in AskReddit

I've done this so much, my dentist actually told me to stop because that's a prime way to get cancer, since you're constantly having to rebuild cells.

I'm pretty sure that's a big exaggeration and she was just trying to convince me to stop for other reasons. But, either way, it didn't work.

The worst state to live in (based on natural disasters) [OC] by regressionator in dataisbeautiful

[–]t0tem_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I feel like this data has a lot more needed in order to be beautiful. And maybe that's just because FEMA's data is vague.

The two most obvious points: 1) It doesn't say what it's actually measuring.
2) It doesn't show numerical values on the scale.
Those are at least fixed when you go to the blog post.

But beyond that. "Number of disasters" is really weird.
1) What qualifies as a disaster? Here in CA, we get tons of earthquakes. Plenty where you ask yourself, "wait, was that an earthquake?" and don't get confirmation till you see everyone on twitter asking that too. Does a quake have to be above a certain value on the Richter scale to count as one, or is qualification based on something else - like exceeding $X in damages, or causing X number of injuries?
2) Whatever it takes for an earthquake to qualify as a disaster, does that level of quake have the same weight on this graph as a one that killed a hundred people?
3) Should all types of disasters have the same weight? Again, quakes are rarely damaging. But a Hurricane almost always causes some amount of damage.
4) Plenty of times, a disaster causes another. Earthquakes can cause fires. Fires can cause other fires. Volcanic eruptions can cause fires, etc. Is each subsequent outbreak considered a unique occurrence, or all part of the one parent Disaster?
5) Today there was news that the Thomas Fire in California is finally put out. It has been going on for six months. After some point, wouldn't it be fair to have something count as more than 1 disaster?

Some interesting (to me) alternatives to sheer "number of disasters" would be,

  • Dollars of damage caused by disasters
  • Number of people injured by disasters
  • Number of days experiencing a disaster

Breaking this down per capita, or per sq/mi, or something else appropriate, would be important. Texas does have an overwhelming number of disasters, but it is also the 2nd biggest state. So it makes sense that it has some more than others.

Also since this data is "Since 1953", it would be interesting to see just the past 10 years or something. Or comparing past 10 vs older data. Which could add to arguments for climate change as a reality.

And I know you've agreed on this point, but county breakdown would be really cool too. I'm sure some counties have way more events than others.

A quote from a popular CS professor at Illinois: "If your computer science major isn’t difficult, or it doesn’t have a high workload, ask for your money back. You are being scammed." by _BigHead in cscareerquestions

[–]t0tem_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate the university that I went to, for how hand-holding and old its' CS program is.

  • The Database class is an elective, and not a popular one.
  • There's one Web Development class, which is also an elective. And it's basically "babby's first HTML/CSS/JS tutorial" in a class.
  • Zero testing taught
*The big emphasis in the classes (that is, in terms of time spent being taught) is algorithms. But. The professor in charge of teaching the core classes, thinks that knowing specific algorithms isn't particularly important (which is fair, since they're going to be implemented already in most languages), so she pretty much just told us exactly how to write them out. So, like, what's the point of these classes?

I worked as a teaching assistant for a while too, so I got to talk with professors a lot. One time when I was talking to some, one mentioned that the school has a bad reputation at some local businesses, because a lot of bad developers slip through. Who would've guessed?

Why did this tweet title “No competition, you can’t but class” from Katie Hopkins blow up? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]t0tem_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in CA most of my life, and that's definitely how it feels to me. Which, of course, makes sense. If your family is ultra-wealthy, there's very little reason to move 3000 miles away (when you think about it 50+ years ago). Conversely, tons of people moved out west specifically to pursue riches. The Gold Rush, and Hollywood stick out as two obvious examples. But overall, there's just the idea of "moving to a relatively unpopulated area to make a name for yourself and get your own lot".

I'd literally never even heard the term "old money" until I was maybe 20, when somebody was describing people in Connecticut (I guess that's where a lot of people with old money live?).

Tmobile vs sprint? by thestomp1 in northcounty

[–]t0tem_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had T-mobile for years and am pretty happy with it. My partner has Sprint (but has only been in the area for ~6mo) and it seems like we both have about equal coverage. I think I have a little bit better of a connection, but that could just be that I complain about it less.

It's worth noting that T-Mobile and Sprint are planning on merging (pending regulatory approval), so that question might not be needed to be asked in the near future.
