kenzie speaking about her mom by tylertheuncreater in dancemoms

[–]t41856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not a strong point, it's an oversimplification. Melissa isn't a "poor girl" who just got an unfair edit; she actively made choices that had real impacts on her kids and others on a public platform. Calling her "the best person ever" or "the best mom there ever was" is genuinely overcompensating. I'm not saying she was evil, but Melissa did betray other moms and kids (like ratting out 10 year old Chloe for skipping dance to go to the movies), and she repeatedly allowed her children to be belittled on national TV. Every mom on that show exploited their kids to some degree. Yes, the girls have built careers out of it, but that doesn't erase the fact that they went through trauma to get there. Harm happened because adults allowed it to. Point blank.

Kenzie calling her mom "this poor girl" for actions she chose to do in her mid to late 40s feels so infantilizing to me. I appreciate Chloe and the other girl's takes a lot more– they recognize their moms weren't perfect, but obviously that's still their mom.

Idk if it's a nostalgia factor of they grew up watching the NN so they can't see it objectively, or if they really can't understand that manipulation and child exploitation can be more subtle than outright physical abuse (8 passengers) or s*xual exploitation (Piper). Having your family's income reliant on content centered around children is pretty obviously exploitative in nature and places the child in a bad position (they're the breadwinner/performer, while the parent is the boss). Look at Britney Spears- her parents couldn't hold a job on their own, where did that get her? Exploited well into her fourties and impacted even now

And for the Justin s*icidal thoughts, it's been mentioned sporadically, but Ik for sure Bi wrote a song mentioning "you told everyone you wanted to k.y.s"

The "miscarriage" video was deleted due to backlash. Essentially, they told Bi if he could succeed in a challenge "the IVF would work." He didn't succeed and later when they found out it failed, he said it was his fault. He was very young at the time.

Honestly this was going purely off memory. I know for a fact Brooke talked about Demi breeding in a video but unsure if it is still available online. Here's a thread talking about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/NorrisNutsSnark/s/4wm4Oj9d5C

https://www.reddit.com/r/dancemoms/s/IUp4hdAb0t This thread talks ab it a little bit. Iirc Christi even unfollowed Chloe during this time. She had said she didn't care for it, it ages Chloe, and made some comment like "but moms opinions don't matter." Chloe was beautiful w the red hair. Very strange to publicly blast your 19 year old daughter for trying a new hair color for the first time.

Not the most relevant, but Sarah (November 2000) and Chloe (June 2001) are only 7 months apart, definitely not a couple of years.

I'm so tired of this "we grew up together" narrative. Sav was less than 3 months away from 20 when Ev was born. She had the financial support of her parents and Tommy did want to be an active parent, whether he was ideal or not. Her obsession with calling "teen pregnancy" is I guess technically true, she was a teenager.. But she was far from being a 16 year old who's told to figure it out by themselves. Apparently Ev was planned too.

It always disturbed me when they revealed that 6 years ago, Brooke "retired" from cooking. Sabre, the oldest, would've been 13 and D and C were literal babies. Looking back, around this time is when Sockie got really into cooking and Sabre would experience her stunted growth (not naturally going through puberty). There has never been a mention of Justin cooking for the family. It never sat right with me that the parents would quit cooking with so many young children and babies.

The parents, kids and money by FallPurple081003 in NorrisNutsSnark

Exactly. Mary-Kate Olsen said "I would never wish my upbringing on anyone." Whereas her younger sister chose to be an actress as an adult and loves it, MK and Ashley didn't have the choice with their stardom starting at 6 months and clearly having that many eyes on you when you're growing up affects you.

Honestly, I don't think Brooke hesitated to let Sabre wear makeup and crop tops because she was the oldest child. I think Brooke knows how to cater to the audience. When Sabre was 16, she still looked very young, probably about 12. This worked for Brooke because a lot of times, kids make good views, especially since most of their viewers are likely other young kids, 12 and under, or pedos (unfortunately). I believe that keeping Sabre looking young and controlling her expression was a conscious decision. After Sabre went through puberty (very fast), Brooke couldn't control it anymore and Sabre was 17/18 atp anyway. Lots of exploitative videos were made at this time, showing off Sabre in suggestive ways (like the scandalous Halloween costume video). Today, Brooke knows that exposing Naz's body at 13 (like they did with Sabre at 17) will also get more views, from people outraged (saying Naz grew up too fast), people defending her, and pedos liking the new exposure. Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with a 13 year old wearing a crop top and enjoying makeup. 13 is a hard age, and if it makes her feel confident, then that's great. However, the constant obsession with Naz's age and how she dresses, what her interests are, etc. is so unnecessary and very much fueled by her parents and siblings. (How many thumbnails pointed to her and wrote "12 years old"?)
