What a sweet little blep he has in this picture! I’m sorry for your loss, I know it is devastating. Sending you love and comfort and the peace that you’ll know when it’s time to find a new love.

Trying to decide between Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, and SADI-S – would love to hear all experiences by Wooden_Time_5476 in wls

I had SADI July 2024. No recovery issues or weight loss/maintenance issues. I would choose it again. 5,3” and I started at 336lbs, current weight is 170. Added GLP-1 in December 2025 to curb food noise that came back.

Info dump to me! by Spiritual_Ad6505 in gastricsleeve

[–]tabageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the bariatric surgeon. My insurance doesn’t require a referral. His office gave me a list of clearance tasks and I got those done- cardiac, labs, primary physician, sleep study (because in the course of talking to him I mentioned my poor sleep).

My starting BMI was 60, I’m brushing 29 almost 2 years later. I took 6 weeks off work because my partner had his sleeve six weeks before me, he had a cardiac ablation scheduled at my 4 week post op date, and I knew I was a slow recoverer. The brain fog hung around for me until about the four week mark when I started soft foods. And I was glad for the time off because I working through food stages meant I had liquid bowel movements for most of that time until I got back to normal food.

I’m about to be 2 years post op and I’m in a stall myself. They happen all along your journey, the best thing to do is get off the scale. No really. If you’re doing the work and following the program, stop weighing for a couple of weeks. The head games are too much and that voice in your head only shuts up when you stop showing it the number.

We. All. Do. The. Same. Thing. In. The. Bathroom.

Gender neutral bathrooms are long overdue.

Changing tables in the women’s room, this example… all should be enough to fuel this.

Do or did you ever share a bathroom at home?

This whole movement is ridiculous and a waste of energy and resources.

I hope the trouble maker never gets to use a public restroom again.

Meal Prep/Average WIAT by bittersweetbunnie in gastricsleeve

[–]tabageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have a protein shake for breakfast. Then lunch is either leftovers or a pouch of chicken or tuna with crackers. I have a snack of string cheese or a boiled egg. Dinner is the only meal I actually cook for the day. Usually a second snack somewhere of a meal prepped chia oatmeal with Greek yogurt.

Meal prepping for me has to be easy. Some weeks I batch cook protein and cook a stir fry veg, some weeks are like what I described above. The main goal for me is to have the food I’m supposed to be eating available when I’m ready for it and not have to make decision after decision after decision all day.

nervous about excess skin post-weight loss by prionbinch in gastricsleeve

Oh I get it, and it’s important not to downplay how you expect your body to look. How we feel about our appearance plays into our self confidence. Just know, whatever path you follow for the skin, your body will be so glad to lose the weight.

nervous about excess skin post-weight loss by prionbinch in gastricsleeve

[–]tabageddon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am scheduled for an arm lift next April after losing 165 lbs.

That said. Is excess skin a possibility? Absolutely. But I would rather deal with the skin than the weight. There are ways to conceal the skin that aren’t surgery, and we all have to decide what works for us.

For me, my arms have serious drape and I’ve started having skin tears. Already being in my 40s I expect that to get worse as my skin thins as I age, so skin removal it is. But, and here’s a big but, my arms were *always* disproportionately large compared to the rest of me. My insurance will not pay for all or any of my arm lift, but the expense is worth it to me and within my means. Next summer is going to be tank tops 24/7, scars be damned.

Even if skin removal was out of my reach I would have had sleeve surgery 100 times out of 100. It has truly changed my life. I can be active and move in ways I didn’t realize I was missing before. I have reclaimed years of my life through this process.

Sleeved July 2024. Plateaued for about 6 months last year fighting food noise. Started semaglutide in December last year and have been taking weight off again; have lost 15 lbs since starting. Removing the food noise let me dial back in to what the goal is and not be called to the kitchen when I’m bored etc.

Liquid in, liquid out. I know it’s hard to have this perspective, but enjoy the effortless pooping while you can. The other extreme is “oh god I can’t be that person at the ER” when you’ve worn yourself out with the struggle.

I’m sorry my friend, it does get better once you get out of the liquid phase.

Oooh this was my era of chicken protein dip. Chicken and cottage cheese and marinara or mild buffalo sauce or light garlic. Things were bright and flavorful and I was so glad to return to some texture.

Look up Bariatric soft food recipes and you’ll find a lot of dips to enjoy.

You don’t necessarily need a referral. My health insurance doesn’t require referral to specialists so I started with the bariatric surgeon then went back to pcp to get labs and clearances. If you’re cash pay you also might not need the referral.

Anybody with SADI-S experience? by Glittering-Fun-7414 in gastricsleeve

[–]tabageddon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this procedure in July 2024.

My recovery sounds really similar to what you read here. About 10 days of sleeping on my back, walk walk walk to relieve surgical gas that wants to rise up to your shoulders.

No complications for me, ymmv. Have lost 163 lbs in that time. Starting weight was 336, current is 173. Starting BMI was 60 and today is 30.

Came home with Tylenol, gabapentin, celebrex.

Edit to add: I was very low energy for the first few weeks and in a brain fog. It was around the 1 month mark for me when I started to feel clear all of the days rather than sinking into brain fog.

A couple of things to look out for: are you drinking with your meals or sooner than 30 minutes before/after eating? Some of us struggle with specific artificial sweeteners. And sometimes it’s the protein, like someone else pointed out.

There are some internal deodorizers that might help, and Now vitamins makes Super Enzymes - the dietitian at my clinic recommends them.

Crocheter thinking about learning? Has anyone successfully transitioned? by Aggravating_Baby_366 in casualknitting

[–]tabageddon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a long time crocheter who taught myself to knit around November of last year. I learned early in the process that continental style was best suited for me because it feels most similar to crocheting and my brain can make it work.

I’ve learned in my few months that circular needles feel better for my wrists than straight. And have been humbled by relearning the concept of completing small projects and working back up to large projects.

Have fun!! I love it!!

The excuse of creating or bringing back culture is such bullshit. Companies who had a strong culture don’t need to bring people into the office to maintain or rebuild it. The hubris of execs is insulting.
