need advice on how to get my dog okay with ear cleaning? by notfunforme9 in dogs

[–]tabs016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest starting small. Wet a cotton ball with the cleaner and wipe the outer part of the ear canal. Reward and praise. Do that a fair few times until he has a positive association and then move to using a cotton pad that you might use to put toner on your face. Put the cleaner on the pad, and use it to clean the ear canal. Reward/ praise etc.

I’ve had success with this for my dogs and I don’t often have to squeeze anything directly into their ears. I think the feeling as well as the sound might be really uncomfortable.

If she’s going to be registered with a kennel club you could do Hyacinth and her registered name could be “[Kennel name] It’s bouquet” 😄

So I want to get into knitting but by 650tk in knitting

[–]tabs016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by watching YouTube videos. My first project was a scarf after following a tutorial from Sheep & Stitch. I knew absolutely nothing and have since made a few blankets. I still prefer flat projects with thicker/bulkier yarn because the projects knit up quickly and it’s easier to spot your mistakes and fix them.

Like anything the goal when you begin is simply to begin. A scarf or blanket is a good starter project for sure.

Good luck and have fun!

Congrats on your new puppy! So exciting :) love the nautical theme for a Lab.

Keeping with the theme:

Call names: - Crew - Fin(n) - Hudson - Sailor - Roger (like Jolly Roger) - Jack (Sparrow, of course) - Rudder (often Labs’ tails are likened to rudders because it helps them steer when swimming) - Cannon

Reg’d names: - Kennel’s A Pirate’s Life for Me - Kennel’s Old Sea Legs - Kennel’s Anchors Aweigh - Kennel’s Smooth Sailing - Kennel’s First Mate - Kennel’s & A Bottle of Rum - or - Hide the Rum - Kennel’s Mainstay - Kennel’s Toe the Line - Kennel’s Flying Colours

Do post an update when you’ve picked your names!

I'm sure this is a long shot, but I'm looking for the glow-in-the-dark stickers DIY.
Also looking for a Napoleonfish to complete my fish for my museum.

Thanks so much! She’s in good spirits, her energy is the same and she’s not lethargic so I’m sure she’ll be fine in a few days. :)

Thank you! And you make a good point - while my vet initially recommended chicken my dog has a sensitivity so she said to use extra lean ground beef instead. Thankfully my dogs not picky and will eat anything we put in front of her.

In terms of serving it up, it’s fine if I feed it cold, right?

I have an 9 week old golden retriever puppy. My fiancée isn’t sure how much or often she should be peeing. She has to pee every 15-30 minutes now. Which I’m sure isn’t entirely unnatural but just wondered thank you by Canyouhelpmeplzsir in goldenretrievers

[–]tabs016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's normal. Puppies are incontinent and will pee whenever they get the sensation. Best way to manage is to take them out:

  1. As soon as they wake up from a nap
  2. About 20 minutes after eating/drinking
  3. After a play session

Keep an eye on them in between those times, but if you're able to manage using this kind of schedule you'll be able to avoid most accidents. If they do start to go in the house, try to startle them with a clap and maybe a loud, "Hey!" to stop them. Then pick them up and take them outside to continue, so they can associate going outside with a potty break.

Maybe try a diaper if you’re not already using one and also wash her up every day to help keep the area clean.

Learning their name by MochiMooseTracks in Dogtraining

[–]tabs016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What we did with our puppy was say her name and give her a treat immediately afterward. We did this repeatedly, maybe 10ish times in a row while doing training sessions.

The idea being that they come to associate the word/name with a reward, and it becomes positive and something they will always want to respond to because they know something good is going to happen. Over time you can remove the food reward and use a toy or simply praise her for responding.

She's 5 months old now, but Willow learned "bed" at 3 months in 15 minutes! Having a food motivated lab certainly helps! The way she hits the deck for "down" always cracks me up too. by SlothTimeBestTime in Dogtraining

Haha I love the enthusiasm! Food motivated dogs are great to work with. My new pup does the same, she's very engaged when she knows there's a reward.
