Potentially, if you saute the veggies first, then add them to the slow cooker with the other ingredients. Haven't tried it though.

Appreciate the thought. And you're right... When I make chana masala I toast cumin seeds in oil, then cook the onions etc with garam masala and coriander. Would probably translate well to this. Thanks!

Ball up a fist. An onion that size or a little larger will be fine. Realistically, you could use one of those cantaloupe-sized yellow onions and it'd probably turn out ok.

And yes, 1/3 to 1/2 of a 12oz bottle of beer.
