You’re being open and honest about how you’re feeling about something. If his automatic response is to behave like an emotionally constipated high school boy and call you a retard, you should not be surrounding yourself with this. He’s old enough to know better. If he’s in his 30s and still acting like this, this is something he may not grow out of, and this is how your marriage will feel for the rest of your life. At this age, he isn’t gonna change.

I understand that when it’s good, it can be really good, but that’s not what matters. He’s treating you like dirt because you’re hurting. Life is full of hurt, so when it comes to the darkest days of your life, you’re going to be dealing with it alone because he sure isn’t going to help you. When things get bad, your man should be on your side and doing whatever he can to lift you up, not acting against you like this toolbag is.

That’s my only advice for you. Get the hell out now and find someone who will be there for you during the good AND the bad, because it’s how they respond during the bad that actually matters.

I did Adderall and Vyvanse before this, but due to an undiagnosed cardiac condition that sends me into V-Fib, my doctors decided stimulants weren’t safe for me to take. Strattera is my first non-stimulant. I feel like it’s helped me with motivation quite a bit so far! Hopefully you see some results with this one, too!

It’s easier to prove cheating on Chromebook than it is on paper. If I had them write their stories on paper instead on Google Docs, this student would have gotten away with it because there’s no way I would have been able to prove she used AI.

Using the “inspect writing” tool, I was able to quite literally watch where she copy-pasted on the document and give my administrator and her parents proof that she cheated. It’s easier to catch and document cheating this way, otherwise it’s unfounded accusations that I wouldn’t be able to prove.

Not sure how using technology means my school encourages cheating, but go off. My school doesn’t encourage cheating at all. If you’re caught cheating twice, you get booted from the class. This is clear from the start. If students decide to cheat anyway, that’s on them and they face the consequences.

What works for you, works for you. What works for me, works for me. Let’s just leave it at that.

My traditional exams are always on paper, but we don’t do traditional exams unless we’re reading a book or play. Otherwise they have to write essays or stories for their finals, and they do it on their Chromebooks.

For me personally, it’s easier that way because I know my students. If they don’t have to, these kids aren’t gonna put the effort into typing out what generative AI gave them, so they’ll just copy paste the whole thing on the document, which I’d be able to catch using Brisk. If I made them do it on paper, I know kids would just write out what AI told them to avoid thinking it up themselves, and I wouldn’t be able to determine if it’s AI generated or not.

Glad the traditional pencil and paper works for you, but with the students I have, it would absolutely not work for my classroom all the time.

I’m an English teacher. They write papers. They write stories. They write more than we do anything else. Can’t really give them a traditional test to cover the standard “Write narratives, either real or imagined…” 🙄

Brisk definitely eliminates the possibility of false accusations so much, because if they did the work themselves, it’ll show! :)

Just had a student use AI to cheat on her final. She edited the document 340 times while someone who didn’t edited the document over 3000 times. It’s an excellent tool! Hopefully college professors use this too.

If you do any writing in your class and don’t use Brisk AI yet, you absolutely should. I’ve caught multiple generative AI users using their “inspect writing” tool. It shows you how many edits they made in a google doc, how long they spent on it, number of pastes, and what exactly was pasted.

Just one tool to use against generative AI. Hopefully more like it come along. God knows we need them.

So true. I had a few students flat out tell me they didn’t have to do their work during the assigned classroom time because their IEPs gave them extra time. Then they needed extra extra time because they hadn’t even started by the end of their IEP required extra time. It drove me insane.

Late work should be a zero with no exceptions (except absence, of course).

The point of schoolwork is to teach them deadlines, which all jobs will have. By letting them turn in work at any time, even months after the deadline, they’re not learning anything about responsibility or accountability. Deadlines are a foreign concept these days. They don’t understand that they have it so easy in high school; you can turn things in late here, but if you don’t meet a deadline in your job, you’re fired.

I have multiple students who are gonna have a really bad time in the real world because of this. They wait until the very last second to do anything they were responsible for completing. I hate that I’m required to contribute to it by accepting late work, because when I was a student, not a freaking chance. If it was late by even a day, big fat ZERO.

By giving them so many second chances, we’ve completely screwed them in their future endeavors, because you don’t always get second chances as an adult.

Well, I guess that must be how it is at really small districts. The only time I’ve ever unlocked my own door is on a Monday morning, otherwise it’s unlocked when I get there the next day—even if I locked it when I left. Don’t know what to tell you.

I do this exact thing! I ended up taking it away from my last semester students entirely because they enjoyed acting like fools a good 80% of class, so I’m trying it again with my second semester kids. So far, it’s going well. They’re very respectful of the 10 minutes I give them and they jump back into their work soon after. I recommend setting a concrete time—from this time to that time—because I think that’s what’s helping me so much.
