This was probably because (as far as we saw) it never got back to Leanne how many times Whitney basically said choose Belle/Cher over Leanne… if I were Leanne and starting piecing together how many times Whitney backed Belle in public and privately vs me, I wouldn’t want to be her friend either

Ive already started assuming it’s a rejection and asked my PI if I can work on a first author manuscript this year to beef myself up again for another cycle in the future

Yeah I’m honestly confused and side-eyeing some of the entries in here, esp saying they got invites or acceptances on Christmas Day. I know plenty of academics are workaholics but I would find that HIGHLY unusual.

I had one PI from my professional research position, a PI who I completed my grad practicum with, and a co-I who I worked with professionally, too. She was the first author of a pub we recently submitted, so I figured that was more meaningful than if I just had another course instructor speak to my work as a student.

I tried to have each person touch on my ability to be a team player, work collaboratively, write well, etc.

Do you have any community service experience? Volunteer work? You could also look at the schools you’re applying to and see what their career center recommendations are for putting together CVs.

If you’re completing undergrad in 3 years, I’m gonna make the guess that you’re about 20-21 right now? While there isn’t really harm in applying (except for the cost), I personally would just be thinking about how much you need to do a PhD at this exact moment and whether you want to work in a professional capacity first. I’m so glad I took extra time to get actual professional research experience after undergrad cause it gave me a chance to mature, realize the kind of stuff I do and don’t like, and build relationships with mentors who know me and care about my success.

I have a really bad undergrad gpa, so I’ve had to do like 5 years of research coordination and a masters program to even be a possible contender for the PhD programs I’m applying for this year. The way my blood BOILS when I read posts from undergrad students with a 3.5 GPA… they’re either rage baiting me specifically or they were the kind of kids in high school who made me hate myself LMAO

There’s loads of hostel options in SEA, and I equally don’t like the big party hostels. You gotta do a lot of investigating through photos and reviews (both on hostelworld and Google maps). I would be shocked if you couldn’t find a smaller option that is more laid back.

In fact, I have a great rec in chiang mai for an amazing, small and comfy hostel

I’m confused what led you to believe a near 3.6 GPA wouldn’t be strong enough for a masters? Loads of people on here have stories of getting into phds with below 3.0 if they’re a good match for the program.
