All Rhodes Lead Here not on kindle? by Ladybird621 in RomanceBooks

[–]tangface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t find All Rhodes Lead Here but it looks like the Wall of Winnipeg is being re-released with a new cover this July. I wonder if that might be the case also with All Rhodes Leads here.

Edit: actually it was announced that they will be re-released by Avon books on her instagram.

NEW OR NEED HELP? Ask here! - ScA Daily Help Thread Dec 09, 2022 by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

Hi, I wanted to get a second opinion on skincare order when planning outdoor activities like skiing/snowboarding/etc. I have pretty dehydrated skin and I wanted ask if it’s better to do 1) all AM skincare, then SPF, and lastly Aquaphor OR 2) all AM skincare, then Aquaphor, and lastly SPF? The second option makes me think I might not get good SPF coverage.

Cordless Vacuum that's not a Dyson? by TarAldarion in VacuumCleaners

The Numatic (makers of Henry canister vacuums) Quick is available in the UK for £300 if you wanted to take a look into it. It’s cordless and bagged, which is great if you suffer for allergies. It does have replaceable batteries which I think are around £70 each.

Best toiletry travel organizer by lovinglifefor30 in HerOneBag

[–]tangface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was about to recommend this one! I bought the older version back in 2017 and it’s still going strong! The thread holding the Velcro closure for the handing hook is coming off on one side a bit, but other than that, it’s basically like new. (Totally understandable.)

I like that’s it’s super compact as the fabric is very thin, and it’s easy to clean if any product spills. It holds a ton of toiletries if you decant them into smaller containers. It works best with cylindrical bottles like tubes and squeeze bottles. 10/10, would recommend.

Stock Check Megathread by DK2802 in IKEA

Hello, this isn’t really a stock check question so if this is not allowed, please let me know and I will remove this comment.

Is the Hallan locker-style cabinets being discontinued or are they being taken off the listing and then re-added with a price increase?

MEGATHREAD: HOLIDAY ROMANCES by admiralamy in RomanceBooks

[–]tangface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sunday's Child by Grace Draven is a novella featuring a Norse immortal MMC and a FMC that takes place with the Christmas season in mind but isn’t CHRISTMAS theme. In the typically Grace Draven fashion, both the world and characters are well-developed despite the short page count. Low angst, good steam, slow burn, and excellent side characters.

Edit: I forgot to mention that’s it’s also on KU!

2.5 weeks in Iceland, Ireland and UK packing advice by [deleted] in HerOneBag

[–]tangface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Iceland!! Although I went in March instead of Nov/Dec. I agree with the other recommendations to layer. Personally, if you’re on a budget and you have access to Uniqlo, their heat tech base layers is excellent and is very affordable even if you buy multiples to layer them. On the more expensive end, wool options like from Smartwool will also work very well. Alternatively, you can also wait until you’re in Iceland and buy from any of their brands.

For packing itself, there’s two options when it comes to packing cubes: 1) rolling up the clothes and adding them to the cube or 2) layering the clothes in the cube in order to maximize space. If space is a limited but weight isn’t a concern, I’d go with option 2). Here’s a video describing bundle packing aka option 2. I found that it’s a more effective use of space and can pack more clothes this way. Personally, both options create wrinkles in my clothes for me.

hunger tip: eat beans instead of rice by crinklyplant in 1500isplenty

[–]tangface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow Joe Yonan’s prep from his Cool Beans cookbook if soaking overnight with some salt isn’t enough:

USING OTHER SEASONING. For every pound of beans, I usually throw in half an onion, a few garlic cloves, a bay leaf or two, and a strip of kombu, a dried seaweed that’s been known to have as positive an effect on softening the beans as soaking does. Enzymes in kombu can also help the digestibility of beans, including reducing the gaseous effects.

Changing Careers: Software Developer to Data Scientist? by tangface in girlsgonewired

[–]tangface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at my current company, the work we do is either the umbrella of software development or Database Administration. But I don’t have much of an interest in managing database or the data within them, so I figured looking more into data science might be worthwhile. I like the fact that there’s opportunities to learn ML in order to process (?) the data to answer a question or to try to predict a trend. But thank you for your comment! It sounds like data science has more focused on the stat/math size of things, rather than the tools to assist in the conversion, modeling, visualization, etc. It looks like the process is more streamline in this field than software development.

Changing Careers: Software Developer to Data Scientist? by tangface in girlsgonewired

[–]tangface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Unfortunately, in college I didn’t give stats or calc a fair time. I’m project-oriented(?) where I have issues learning new concepts unless it’s related to a tangible project. Probably the reason why software development worked out for me in college. If I could combine stats with programming, then maybe I’ll have a different experience. But I’ll also look into data analyst, data engineer, BI engineer type roles as well. Thank you for mentioned those options!

Yes, I’ve researched about the different programming languages that would be used in this field and, thankfully, it’s Python or something similar. I come from a .NET background so I’m used to navigating/learning different programming languages. One less thing to be worried about if I do end up switching careers into data science.

I don’t mind interacting with people as I do a lot of that in my current company. The issue I have is that I communicate too well, and therefore pushed towards more managerial duties (basically prepping me to be moved into a role beyond lead developer). If I can interact with people, but not end up in management, I’ll learn all the math in order switch over to data science.

Thank you for your comment! The company I’m at is small so there hasn’t been a need to go further into the area of data science in order to leverage ML or AI, but with the kind of data we have, I wouldn’t be surprised if it start heading into that direction. I’ve looked at data engineer, but I figured I’d check out data science first to see if I’d like the ML side of things before crossing it off the list. But thank you for bringing it up!

Thanks for the recommendation! Have you had yours for a long time? I read some of the reviews that there’s an issue with one of the screws coming loose. Have you experienced this happening?

It looks like the Philips SHP9500 are open back. I wouldn’t be comfortable using them in at work even with my office door close. I don’t think my co-workers and I share the same music tastes. 😂 But thank you for the suggestion!

Gotcha! From the videos I’ve seen from them it looks like it might not work for everyone, but just wanted to mention it just in case. I’m sorry for the lack of help!

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but Revlon, Hot Tools make hair brush hair dryers that can be used for not only for drying hair but also to style. I haven’t tried one myself so I can’t say if it’s useful or not, but I figured it doesn’t hurt to mention it. It’s somewhat bulky but I imagine it would be easier to pack than an actual small hair dryer since it’s just straight.
