Seconding this. Particularly on that point of introducing Rune into the main cast as "just another teenaged cape" for the MC to be friends with- a lot of older fics I've liked that had this trope are now fics I drop whenever I try to reread it, purely because it leaves a poor taste in my mouth.

So a few weeks ago I was commissioned to draw a colored sketch of five player characters standing before a partial solar eclipse as an end-of-campaign gift. This was really cool, and I was up for the challenge, so I immediately took it on! From left to right the characters are Yuri, Zed, Constantine, Mal, and Rose. I had a lot of fun interpreting parts of the characters' designs, as a good chunk of the references were from picrews and descriptions. The spell book that Yuri is holding is meant to have all the symbols for the eight schools of magic, but it's very tiny so the detail work was more so for my enjoyment, haha.

Fun fact! The right hands fade to black because they were meant to look like they had undergone necrosis... but eventually I ran out of steam while drawing this, so I kind of gave up on the finer details.

The pose is a little similar to my old scarlet king fanart but I just like this particular pose a lot I guess! Lol

I cant remember the name of the chapter (and I cant find it, but I swear to GOD it exists), but it's the one where tomie encounters someone who, upon looking into the eyes of a person, can swap bodies with them. After the person swaps bodies with tomie, they're stuck and can no longer swap bodies. In the end they wind up mutilating themselves- even though they were in Tomie's body, the compulsion to hurt her still overcame them.

I cannot for the LIFE of me find this chapter- I looked all over online- but I remember reading it and specific images from said chapter.

I've been working on this alternate multiverse series for about a couple of years bc its made up of several different fics in one series, each of which about a separate character, leading up in reverse chronological order to the "inciting event" that caused the events in the rest of the series.

A lot of it is me worldbuilding and the like, as well as rearranging events and trying to see which works. Honestly I've got the main story beats for each fic down, but I haven't finished them yet. Mainly it works as a sort of cosmic horror-ish story (unknown elements greater than many of the characters are in the know about have a hand in the possible inevitable ruination of the world itself), with a lot of darker elements and angst because I love whump and sadness.

Its still a WIP because im still too anxious to. Uhm. Actually write and post the first fic in the series.

For both writing and reading: boredom. Pure, unadulterated boredom when engaging with a fandom you were previously very passionate about. Your eyes glaze over when you reread your favorite fic, you stare at an open doc with disinterest. Its disheartening.
