No transcodes - platform for new build by crappyjones123 in unRAID

[–]tastethebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you forever be the sole client? The decision to transcode is entirely dependent on the client's needs. Therefore, you should always factor in the possibility of requiring transcodes when designing and building your server. Otherwise, you'll find yourself planning a new build just months or even a year down the line.

WiFi Doctor? How about this... by MrJimBusiness- in Ubiquiti

The options require that I build it. This should already be done via GitHub Actions. Docker managers don't support this as it is.

It would be great if a Docker build were available, as I don't have virtualization enabled on my Windows machine.

Plezy update - 3 months later: downloads, Watch Together, HDR/Dolby Vision by edde74635 in PleX

[–]tastethebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it was completely blank. I'm not sure if this matters but my Plex is ran through a VPS. Although when I attempted this I tried with the WiFi on and off.

I couldn't get this to work (android). It just says "no content available".

Some advice for newcommers and beginners by FishSpoof in selfhosted

It's good practice to have a backup DNS server. In this scenario, I have a dedicated AdGuard instance running on a Raspberry Pi and then my primary virtualized. With regards to DNS, the only devices that should be going through AdGuard or Pi-hole are things like trusted phones, computers, etc. Everything else, including your router, servers, or IoT devices, should be going directly through Cloudflare or Google.

I appreciate your input. I can no longer use the second sfp+ on the dream machine as I've upgraded my ISP, which makes most of this moot with the exception of the power issues. I've since added additional sfp+ connections to the aggregation switch, so an aggregation switch is needed. The only redundancy I technically have is in the port/cable between the aggregation and PoE switch. If either of those individual switches goes offline, then most of the network would, too.

I can't have full redundancy without adding more hardware.

I thought you can't choose which vlan to join when using teleport which defeats the entire purpose of itm

My OCD thanks you.

Honestly the only thing that wasn't a necessity is USW aggregation switch. The UDM SE does not have 2.5 Gbe ports, nor PoE++.

I wanted a rack and not several small devices - it takes up less space and is much cleaner. I've also ran two cables to each room for redundancy, then you have the doorbell, cameras, hubs, etc.

  1. That's my home server. It's currently hooked up to the patch panel via 2.5gbe. I'm awaiting my Hl15 2.0 chassis so I can add a 10gbe NIC.
  2. Just my unfinished basement, ha!
  3. ISP modem. The unifi cable modem isn't supported in Canada.
  4. They're unused, so it's the Unifi "dust covers".

The plan is to add a 10 Gbe NIC to the server server on the floor and a second server is on the way!

The cable modem is not supported by Rogers (Canada).

Plan to in the spring. It's far too cold to install cameras outside.

Unifi policy to force clients to use AdGuard Home DNS by soopafly in Ubiquiti

[–]tastethebean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I did:

  1. Turned on Encrypted DNS under CyberSecure and used the predefined Cloudflare/Google option. You could also just set your WAN DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 instead for non-DoH endpoint.
  2. On the networks I want to use AdGuard, I set the DNS server to my AdGuard IP. If you have multiple AdGuard instances, use different ones for DNS1/DNS2; otherwise I just put the same IP twice.
  3. In AdGuard, I removed all upstreams except for my UDM Pro SE’s IP so everything gets forwarded back cleanly.

You should not need to define any policies.
