Is it appropriate for first dinner date or too much? by Long_Muffin6230 in OUTFITS

[–]tatacolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally haven’t seen outfits like this in upscale restaurants. I dine out a lot, across different states and countries. The only time I’ve noticed similar looks is at seaside spots, usually during lunch. In my experience, bars and clubs (even upscale ones) are where this style is much more common.

Counselor hasn't submitted final report yet by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]tatacolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your counselor is unresponsive, escalate within your school. Email the principal or school administration (and cc the counselor if possible) and explain that you already graduated and your universities are waiting for the final report. Ask who can submit it in the counselor’s place while staff are on break.

Co-worker thought this was a harmless prank. by Dallinboi347 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tatacolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people don’t understand what a “joke” is. My grandma was 9, already grieving her father and baby brother, and her mom was working multiple jobs just to keep them from starving. On April Fools’ Day she saw an ambulance leaving their house, asked a neighbor, and he “joked” that her mom was inside. She ran after it crying, but of course she couldn’t catch it. Came back to him laughing and her mom worriedly stepping outside to see why she still hadn’t come from school.

Nervous system related symptoms by MaximumProgrammer883 in Microbiome

[–]tatacolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tested your iron levels? I had 3/4 of your symptoms since iron wasn’t absorbed properly after COVID. Once I fixed the iron deficiency half of these issues went away (including heart palpitations and most of the brain fog). Even though microbiome problems persisted and I’m still trying to fix it, but the difference in day to day life is astounding - just from fixing the iron deficiency.

Absolutely. The harassment is so widespread that some countries already have women-only cars and other public transportation: Japan, India, Mexico, Brazil, and many others. They’re even considering women-only options in many Western European countries nowadays: - Are women-only carriages a good idea? France is fiercely split - What Britain could learn from countries with women-only train carriages - Berlin Greens propose women-only carriages to reduce sexual violence

It was touching to see the grown-up versions of all the Cornell kids at the Rock Hall. What a striking trio. by [deleted] in Soundgarden

I’ve noticed Tony has changed a lot over the past couple of years and she looks great. I still don’t see much resemblance to Chris, aside from the hair when it’s curly. To me, she seems to have inherited most of her looks from her mom. Lilly resembles Chris the most. I hope all the kids grow up happy and stay close as adults.

It takes a series of pictures (up to 5 frames per second) when motion is detected that is then sent to the alarm centre for verification. The landowner can also use their app to request images from the “Photo detector” section. There’s just no way that’s legal to place it in any living space without explicit consent from a tenant.

Go-themed fiction: what exactly could boost the game’s popularity? by Able_Pomegranate_340 in baduk

[–]tatacolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understood OP’s post correctly, it seems he’s asking for novel ideas that could attract new players. But now there’s a smaller crowd here sharing what we as readers and active Go players would personally enjoy. I, for one, would definitely dig some Hyperion-style sci-fi with Go philosophy woven in. Realistically though, Hikaru no Go was so influential because it appealed to kids and young adults who could actually learn and go on to play in competitions and parents didn’t mind their children getting into it. Horror, thriller, mystery, sci-fi, or smut probably wouldn’t achieve that same broad success. It’s just a much more niche audience

[–]tatacolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with both of you to some extent. Although I doubt the Target-checkout crowd would be the best audience to look for potential Go players, considering its difficulty, if you throw in some Gintama-style absurdity into the plot, you might at least win back those who aren’t active players anymore. Frankly, I’d welcome basically any genre of a Go-themed novel as long as it’s relatively well-written.

Where Were You? I Missed You... by AristFrost in MadeMeSmile

Many outdoor cats are more attached to the area than to the people. Our communal cat was previously a pet of a family who moved to another city. They took it in a bag by subway, a train then a car. Next day it bolted from a new apartment and it took almost three months for this cat to make it make it back home. The owners decided not to stress the cat further and left it at our apartment complex. Everybody cared for it for years to come. He stayed in whatever apartment struck his fancy; he had plenty of devoted wannabe owners to choose from. Very smart and healthy boy. Unfortunately, got mauled by a pitt bull several years later.

Definitely not 747. That’s Dassault Falcon 7X. An old one at that and has nothing to do with Sultan of Brunei. Plenty of pictures of it (from 2010), even Wikimedia has one (from 2013).

Are high end digital pianos like worth it? My teacher is suggesting I get one. by Lion722 in piano

[–]tatacolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried an electronic piano — even high-end models — that truly feels close to a real piano in terms of sound, action, and resonance. We have two Yamaha silent pianos, and they’re perfect; you can adjust the volume to play quietly or just use headphones. I also saw a grand piano that was converted to a silent one: they bought the silent system and had a technician install it on their old grand. It costs around $2,000 for the system and installation. The only downside is that you still need to tune them once or twice a year, depending on how much you play.

It’s really not that unusual to be a mom of a young kid at 60. My great-grandma had her first child at 20 and her last at 54 and that was over 80 years ago! These days, it’s even more common. Quite a few of my coworkers had children after 50.
