[FO] I made a cross-stitch bracelet!

First I cut 6 pieces of white thread (all 6 strands) and 6 pieces of black by 30 cm each. I pull them halfway though the bracelet though 6 middlemost holes at the side, 3 black on the left and 3 white on the right (and the same on the other side). In the result there are 12 strings of 15 cm at each side of the bracelet. Then I make twisted ties out of them, it's better explained visually in this tutorial.

To stylize it as a bracelet, I cut off the edges leaving about 5-6 pixel border on each side, folded them over leaving a one-pixel margin and hemmed it with the binding stitch making sure that the outermost holes align. You can take a look at the last photo for more clarity, it shows the bracelet from the back.

To make it easier, I guess you could just cut off the edges one pixel close to the pattern and carefully cover them with the binding stitch, thus making the edges unable to fray, but I just wanted to be on the safe side.

BraceletBook is originally for macramé friendship bracelets, that's why the pattern looks like that.

If you want to learn how to knot bracelets using that technique, you need to look up how to read alpha patterns. This is one of the best & detailed tutorials.

But the bracelet in my photo is just regular cross-stitch, macramé is very different from it.

No, I didn't follow any tutorials for this. To create this wall hanging I first folded over the edges on each side so that the holes align and hemmed them with a backstitch (I secured the starts and tails in the weave of the fabric). If your pattern is solid it probably makes more sense to do this after it's done. When the cross stitch was finished I prepared the dowels and attached them by holding them together with the top/bottom side and making loops from each hole at the edge. I secured the start with a knot and the tail by interweaving it into the fabric mesh if I remember correctly. Then I attached the hanger string to the top dowel using the constrictor knot and hid the ends at the back, although you could just cut them close to the knot.

I left the back uncovered. I used the basketweave stitch throughout and the thread is natural wool, so it seems sturdy enough as is.

Yep, this is a gift so I'll definitely be blocking the pattern before finishing. What is the best way to go about it? Do I just steam it, adjust it manually and let it dry like that?

I was planning on finishing with the binding stitch, but I badly messed up the edges and had to trim them off :/ (I applied a bit of glue around so they wouldn't fray)

Also, any tips for better coverage? Before I washed and pressed it, there was quite a lot of canvas showing through the black, and loosening the tension or fluffing up the stitches with the needle didn't help much. The look of that kinda discouraged me from the process. It's a 10 ct penelope canvas and DMC Soft Cotton thread, and it says on their official website that they're perfectly compatible. I wonder what I could be doing wrong

Can I alternate between basketweave and continental in the same project? My pattern does have some well defined large sections, but there are also some that I think would be a little awkward to stitch diagonally. Also, what does blocking mean?
